• Re: deoxit & Fisher ca 880 amp, Akai AP-D40 turntable, sony zs yn7 boombox

here's the update after 60+ views & no comments - but thanks for checking even if you have nothing to say

found that ratshack carries deoxit d5 cleaner spray & g5 gold spray so got them when i went grocery shopping nearby - $40+ total. put d5 to work on the amp & the turntable. no change in amp's dead right channel (will ask about amp later since i picked up a free flaky channel Technics SU-Z780 with an apparantly quite nice SVI3205 power ic, that got d5 & g5 treatment &...

i have some old components & a not so old boombox that hopefully are only suffering from crud/corrosion that can be cleaned & lubed to restore function.

the amp & turntable both have declined in function over the years & were put on a closet shelf for 5+ yrs. amp right channel was weak & now dead. tested phone, tape, aux & tuner inputs & left channel output is good on those components (R channel works fine in L input). speakers work fine on L output. i'll do all the knobs, but give attention to volume, pullout mix, and balance & hope that solves it...

    Re: Apex LD3288T

after some more reading i decided to get the new version of the PS from ebay ~$35 shipped in 10 days, well packaged with an inch of bubble wrap etc. from hongKong

the Q3 version has 2 caps near each inverter output (not 1), so some redesign is apparant. transformers on ebay were around $10 but i wasnt interested in testing components this time when the new PS was so cheap.

put in new PS & it fired right up, and has been working without an issue for a month. the only issue is there was no remote, and it takes...

    Apex LD3288T

was given this Apex LD3288T lcd which has either/both power supply+inverter, ccfl problem. the PS+inv is identical to the one in this post

the tv works (a/v on inputs, tuner works) but the ccfls are very very dim - bright video is viewable in a completely dark room but still very dim. i've seen lotsa posts on the net about this PS/inverter & china sells newer versions for $30+ which i will buy if i'm...

  • Re: magnavox 42mf7000 -plasma - blue screen with single vertical white line on one si

it's definitely blue, and the screen shows the input source in yellow as it changes, and menus / volume / etc also show onscreen. the oddest part is i can go thru the menu and scan for tv channels - air - and tho it can't find any it does try (not an HD tuner) - but there is no coax or screw antenna connection accessible (the punchout isn't punched out). i expect i'll find something when i take the back off.

  • magnavox 42mf7000 -plasma - blue screen with single vertical white line on one side

i have a magnavox 42mf7000 plasma tv that gives only a blue screen with single vertical white line on left side (opposite side of button controls). connecting to av1, av2, component, dvi, rgb & still gets blue screen. svid connected to av1 or av2 is sensed (screen shows [S] with av#). with vid/audio in av1, i can hear the audio for less than a second when i switch inputs (side panel button) to av1. after a minute or 2 the screen begins to flicker / shimmer like what you see when a pool is disturbed by some wind or such, & audio in av1 will still pop in for a moment when input is switched...

  • Re: Memorex MLT4221P stuck in standby

yep - nice of them to confuse anyone without the service manual by marking the pcb 18v. i put the old caps back in & tested the p/s and it worked fine. since the mb died & i found out the tv is used as an all day security multi-cam monitor, the old p/s prolly is likely not gonna last that much longer in the heat either.

mb voltage readings are same with a few pins .01-.03v difference.

post 43 has my pic of the power supply with very large caps i refer to in my last post.

new main board from shopjimmy is in and the tv is working again. put in old power supply with oversized caps & it works fine too with the "18v" line running @ 12v. should i put back the original caps, the large caps dont allow the heatsink plate to go back in flush - see the link for the plate on the right - reasons why or why not?

    www.shopjimmy.com/fsp-fsp271-4f02-d24-power-supply.htm

i will take some voltage readings from the new mb to see if they differ from the old. since i have a good one,...

  • Re: Memorex MLT4221P stuck in standby

thanks for the help so far retiredcaps - i'm thinking to 'buy/rent' a mainboard from shopjimmy for ~$97/20 (return charge) to see if a replacement will bring any joy. if there are any precautions you would suggest before swapping them, i'd appreciate that.

if anyone else has suggestions i'd be glad to hear them too. i looked over my old post about a samsung that ran a 5v, (11.8 on) a 12v & 24v from the p/s. which makes me wonder if the board markings of 18v dont necessarily mean all versions of the p/s run 18v.

still looking for some help here. since i dont have the remote, and the power switch doesnt do anything, i checked voltages going to the power & other buttons. all read 0. checked the inverter boards, and both are getting 24v & have good fuses, with I-PWM @ 3.28v. thanks for any ideas on what to check next.

  • Re: Memorex MLT4221P stuck in standby

got the chips - decided to triple check what was going on, noticing a couple more identical AS1117L chips to the left of the 78T05AL. figured i'd measure them too, getting 2.04 / 3.29 / 4.99 & 2.04 / 3.28 / 5.02 which matches the 1.25 bump. took another measurement of the suspect chip, and found i must have made a transcription error ( & failed to notice .6 =\= .06 on my double check) as it does measure .06 on pin1 and not 0.6 - so it checks out within .01v. so on to the next line of inquiry i hope - for now i have some spare chips!...

addendum pg 5 shows TI will send out samples of this one. i got samples from TI or someone maybe 10 yrs ago. looks like i need to set up an account

is it still simple where i can say i'm a student or is there some verification / hassle now? any suggestions?Re: Memorex MLT4221P stuck in standb...a8ce.pdf

if for some f-d up reason the 18v line was supposed to run @ 11.8 for this tv.. what would be the next steps to see what was wrong?

searching mouser & digikey for 78t05 yields some results, but nothing in stock - showing 3A 5v max output

    http://www.datasheetdir.com/78T05+Regulators

shows 0.5A - clik link to datasheet pdf - the ---05 on the chip indicates output is 5v

    http://www.datasheetdir.com/78T05+download

looks like 11.77 is the input v & 4.94 is output

if i disconnect 18v load from p/s the 11.77 goes to 0Re: Memorex MLT4221P stuck in standb...arching mouser...

ok - the real fun begins. friend comes up with $ to buy the p/s from shopjimmy. it arrives & i install it, connecting only the 5v load - the 18v line is @ 11.8v (24 is 24) on the new one too. disconnect power, plug in the 18 & 24 v connectors, connect power and tv remains in standby.

    any ideas?

replaced the caps, and readings are still the same. have a look at the large Illinois Capacitor surplus caps in place. thanks for your ideas. maybe you have some more? i sent a request to the power supply maker for a schematic telling them i was troubleshooting why the 18v line was only at 11.8v. dunno if such places ever respond to such requests....

should i take 470 - 820 as a range? or do you mean i should find 2 caps that add up to something near 1360 total?
