Re: Dell Precision 3520 Troubleshoot
After a while it finally came back, and after removing the two coils, the problem is still there.
And surprise, we have another Precision 3250 that has the same problem: it went down after an USB drive was connected, blown IC w/ burnt electronics smell...
The two cases may be related...

Re: Dell Precision 3520 Troubleshoot
Ok, thanks.
This one has to wait for the air gun to come back :-)

Re: Dell Precision 3520 Troubleshoot
Unfortunately, after moving the resistor to the empty spot below, the problem still remains.
I wonder if the coils PL1301 and PL1302 have to be removed anyway, in order to complete the transition from discrete graphics to UMA.

Re: Dell Precision 3520 Troubleshoot
I've just done it, and measured zero resistance: the empty pad on the right and the right side of the resistor above, are connected.
Let's move the resistor and see what happens :-)...

Re: Dell Precision 3520 Troubleshoot
My best candidate for RE85 is the resistor on the left side of the second image, the first over the screw hole.
The empty position below the resistor is a perfect candidate for RE84 (one pad in common on the MEC5105 side, and the other on +3.3V).

Re: Dell Precision 3520 Troubleshoot
Unfortunately, the board I'm working on, is quite different...
Anyway I've done some measurements (red dot = +3.3V, green dot = GND) on both sides of the motherboard, around and under ME5105, in order to spot potential candidates.
We are looking for RE85, which is connected on one end to the MEC5105 chip, and on the other end to GND.
Once found, we have to move that resistor in RE84 position.
The RE84 position should be an empty spot with one pad @+3.3V, and the other pad at...

Thank you mon2!
I'll give it a try and let you know how it went :-)

Re: Dell Precision 3520 Troubleshoot
I have a Dell Precision 3520 with the same problem.
A long search near the superio chip was unsuccessful.
Do you have/remember any hints to find that resistor?
Thank you....

HP EliteBook 8460p - SMD C6139 capacitor specs
Hello experts,
I've found a short circuit in a EliteBook motherboard, in a SMD capacitor labeled C6139 (burn marks are visible in the image attached).
In order to replace the capacitor, it woluld be nice to know its nominal capacity.
Thank you....

Re: New Members - please post your introductions here
Hello everyone,
I'm a happy linux system administrator from Italy.
I've discovered badcaps some time ago, during the Pentium III era, when bad capacitors in motherboards were easy to spot and easy to fix. Thanks to badcaps I fixed many motherboards, and other electronic boards (even a Gaggia coffee machine!).
I returned again on badcaps because this thread, https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=81241 caught my attention. I want to learning something to repair notebooks...
