Update: The smaller firmware was for the PD controller. After flashing the EC with a fresh version extracted from the Lenovo Update file... nothing changed.
Re: Dell XPS 13 9370 not detecting half of its internal devices, trouble shooting
Major update: Found the source of the short on PCH_PLTRST#_EC to be near the TB3 controller. Removed a 0-Ohm resistor which connects the reset line to the controller, resolving the short circuit.
Now the missing devices all show up again ... except for the TB3 port of course, but whatever. More than happy with the situation. Might consider replacing the controller, but it's a large BGA so probably better not mess with it.
Re: Dell XPS 13 9370 not detecting half of its internal devices, trouble shooting
Small update: The PCH_PLTRST#_EC signal stays low and is not released. The signal measures short to ground when the laptop is powered off! It also controls the reset of the mentioned devices, so this could lead somewhere eventually.Re: Dell XPS 13 9370 not detecting half of its internal devices, trouble shooting

Dell XPS 13 9370 not detecting half of its internal devices, troubleshooting [SOLVED]
Hi all,
the patient of this week is a Dell XPS 13 (9370) with an i5-8250U in good cosmetic condition but with multiple problems. I'm trying to figure out whether it's worth investing more time or not. Here is the diagnosis:
- device powers up, during POST a missing TPM module is reported
- no boot medium found, not even listed in the UEFI (known good NVMe SSD)
- detects and boots a USB drive only from one of the USB ports (the one on the right)
- boots normally into Windows, performs well
- does not detect the WIFI module, the camera, the card...
First of all, thank you so much for figuring this out and sharing the solution!
I used your technique to read and clear the UEFI password of my Yoga 12.
Now for the remaining problem: Even though I can now enter the UEFI by just pressing enter (empty password), I cannot change any settings. I guess this is because the "lock UEFI BIOS settings" option is set to enable. Probably this prevents me from making any changes.
Re: Need UEFI Password Removed from my Surface Pro 5 BIOS DUMP
When I compare the two posted files in this thread on page 4, my compare tool finds a few scattered diffs and a huge block which is different. I can't figure out which diff is the significant one.
Good idea to test on an Intel platform. I might have a 4th gen combo somewhere... mats -n with the card in question leads to a segmentation fault .
Let's see if this leads somewhere. Maybe I just get rid of the card to save me some headache.
I have an Inno3D Herculez X3 GTX 1070, which does not show any image. After ~30s, the monitor turns on and displays a black screen.
The card however is detected by the OS, GPU-Z shows 0 MB VRAM. The driver crashed during boot.
Visually the card is in very good condition. No visible signs of defects, all voltages are present and within reasonable range, but on the high side I think: Vcore = 0.9 V, Vmem = 1.5 V. Vcore measures ~250 mOhm according to my DMM.
This leads me to the assumption, that something VRAM-related is off. So the natural first step...
Does the cap show any sign of damage? If smoke came out, that should be a catastrophic failure and hence clearly visible. Also check the neighboring components: MLCCs, the MOSFET driver chip, resistors before applying power again.
Things like his can easily cause a chain reaction of popping components if something is overlooked in a rush.
Re: RTX 2060 no display, full fan speed, detected as secondary gpu
Hmm. This could suggest that the card is not reading the VBIOS during POST at all. Had a similar problem but I guess when a GPU doesn't read the flash chip, it could be due to a lot of different reasons. Not sure how to proceed from here.
Re: RTX 2060 no display, full fan speed, detected as secondary gpu
Looks like these is some data from a 3090 (https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/?manufacturer=Gigabyte&model=RTX+3090) present. Either you have a 3090 in your system and the data "spill over" in GPU-Z, or you have a wrong VBIOS flashed on your 2060, which would be a very easy fix.Re: RTX 2060 no display, full fan sp...TX+3090)
Do you have an oscilloscope at hand to check for activity on the VBIOS signal lines? I have a card with very similar symptoms and it seems to be caused by bad BGA solder joints in the bottom left corner of the chip, where the VBIOS pins are connected (check my other post).
Re: RTX 2060 no display, full fan speed, detected as secondary gpu
Is the card fully detected in GPU-Z? Meaning every field makes sense, like the BIOS version, the memory type and size etc.?
I have a 1080 with presumably bad solder joints and this shows in a black screen and some weird of missing info in GPU-Z. That's because the VBIOS is not read by the GPU during POST and so it can't report correctly to the OS.
