Hey
I got a short on 3 pins of the PCI-E gold connector for 12V.
I see a few caps near the top right (near main power connector) that look blown, one is showing a short across it to GND.
Unforunately I don't have a schematic or board view for it (EVGA GTX 1070 FTW 8GB).
Due to the large number of caps there, I think it may just be decoupling.
Any ideas on figuring out the cap values? There also isn't any reference numbers for the caps on the silkscreen.

Re: Graphics card Schematics and Boardviews
Need schematic and board view for EVGA GTX 1070 FTW 8GB.
Some SMD caps are blown, can't figure out what values they are.

Where is 5V,12V rail generated - PALIT 980Ti
I have a PALIT 980Ti 6GB givng me a black screen.
3.3V is present, 5V is not. Does anyone know where 5V is created?...

980Ti - White screen crashing on heavy load
Hey,
I have a windforce 980ti that had a blown PCI connector fuse and also one of the DrMOS connected to the PCI I think for memory voltage rail was blown, so replaced that too.
Card runs fine on heaven light load. With heavy load, within 1s, i get a white screen and the pc crashes.
No other issues. No artifacts

GTX 970 GPU crashes when loading drivers?
Hey,
I got a MSI GeForce GTX 970 which had a 2.5ohm short on the PCIE 6pin. I replaced one of the VCORE MOSFETs and the short was gone.
The card boots up now. I got it booted into Windows, started downloading drivers (didn't install yet) and it just black screened - I assume Windows by that time had started loading its own GPU drivers onto mine.
After that, everytime the PC would start booting Windows, I would get a a black screen.
I went into Safe Mode (Worked fine) and installed the drivers. But I get the same issue went booting into...

Replacement Fuse - 980TI Gigabyte
Hi,
I have a GIGABYTE Windforce 980TI with a blown fuse. I have already found the root cause for the fuse blowing.
I need help getting a replacement fuse - I'm fine with waiting some time for some cheap ones from China.
The fuse says 10A on it. And I'm not sure what package size it is exactly. Also, how do I know if it is a fast or slow fuse?

BEST BST-863 vs Atten 863D
Hey,
I need a new hot air station. The Quick is quite expensive in my area and difficult to get.
At the moment, I have the option of a used Atten 863D 1000W for 100 pounds or a new BEST BST-863 1200W for the same price.
I saw SDG Electronics had a good review of the BEST. Louis recommended the ATTEN, not sure if he has seen the BEST.

Re: Gigabyte 980TI Windforce - Blown PCIE Fuse
UPDATE:
Looks like that PCIE 12V x16 is supposed to go all the way to the other end of the board. I'm suspecting the driver/FET IC has shorted out and hence seeing the 16ohms. Maybe this is the 16 ohms for the memory or something?
Right next to the huge electrolytic caps. Going to need to shield those really well.

Gigabyte 980TI Windforce - Blown PCIE Fuse
Hey,
I have a Gigabyte 980TI Windforce. No shorts on the main 8 pin PCIE power connectors. The 8 phase buck converter inductors are showing 2.5ohms.
The card doesn't power up at all - no lights, no fans, nothing. I noticed that all of the 8 phase inductors are showing 0V. I couldn't find a fuse for the 8pin power connectors.
I did notice that the PCIE x16 connector 12V line has a fuse F3 (10A marked on it) which is blown. It is reading 16ohms on one end.
1st Question: Is there some logic on the board that checks the 12V on the PCIE x16 bus connector...Last edited by whc14765; 04-08-2022, 06:35 PM.

Re: DrMOS just won't desolder
Thanks for the detailed response. I have a feeling this DrMOS might be fused to the ground pad. It isn't showing a short but when I first opened the card, that DrMOS had 2 loose solder balls close to the edge of the IC. I assume it must have gotten extremely hot. But there's no shorts and coil Resistance is fine at 2.5ohms too....

Re: DrMOS just won't desolder
Is it worth getting a cheap preheater or instead spending the money on a better hot air station and use that hot air to "preheat" the board....

Re: DrMOS just won't desolder
Will preheating the board to 220C not desolder the components from the back when I start applying hot air to the front? Also, will the plastic connectors for PCIE 6pin/8pin be safe at 220C?
Sorry, I've never used a preheater before, might have to buy one now. I see these 1600W IR ones for around 120GBP, if you have any expereicne with them?...

Re: DrMOS just won't desolder
It's a QFN, the legs are flowing, it's the huge ground pad that is keeping it in place....

Re: Palit 980TI JetStream 6GB - keeps burning VRM(s) in 3d mode
Hey, I'm working on that card as well at the moment, I could help you with a few readings if needed.
A side note: how the heck did you get those DrMOS desoldered, are you preheating the board? My 480C hot air station (Yihua) just won't do it.

DrMOS just won't desolder
I've tried everything - my blower is at 480C on max speed (Yihua 995D) and this IC on the PALIT 980Ti just won't move.
Any ideas on how to get it off? I believe the ground plane is just sinking the heat too quick.
I've added loads of flux and I am trying to remove with tweezers whilst applying hot air directly on the DrMOS.

Alternative to SM7320
Do I have to use the exact same MOSFETs and how do i decide on replacement?
