  • Re: Are these caps low ESR?

Oh, Okay thanks, I'll do the stethoscope idea you mentioned earlier on the weekend, and I'll let you guys know where exactly the sound is coming from.

    Thanks alot!...

LOL, quite the idea with the stethoscope, I should also mention that the high pitched noise only sounds after 10-20 minutes after the monitor has been running, and doesn't go away until I turn it off for a few minutes to "cool down" which is what led me to think it was overheating.

I guess the most "relevant" culprit is a loose transformer, correct?

It seems plausible, however does that include the large 450-volt cap?

Also, sorry for the noob question, but what exactly...

I believe the old CapXon caps were the GL series, for both 820uF and 330uF caps. (Ive attached pictures)

As for what exactly I did, I replaced the following on the SyncMaster 216BW PSU:

    5x CapXon 820uF 25V
    1x CapXon 330uF 25V

with the nichicons i mentioned before.

I appreciate the help, Thanks again....

I replaced my capXon caps in my monitor with these nichicons and there's a high pitched noise which i suspect is from overheating due to one of these caps being high in ESR?

    Black ones are 820uF 25v.

    Brown one is 330uF 25v.

    Thanks....

  • Samsung SyncMaster 216BW Vertical Lines

    Hey guys,

So I was walking home today and i came across a perfectly good looking SyncMaster 216BW that someone was throwing away, I took it with me, tested it and as expected didn't work (Blinking LED, Black screen).

I opened it up and replaced the 6 bulging CapXon capacitors with Nichicon capacitors with the exact same capacitance rating and voltage (5x 820uF 25V, 1x 330uF 25V) on the PSU. I put it back together, and the monitor worked.

The problem is that there are vertical lines across the monitor. The lines are really faded (very transparent), thin, and...

Here are the pictures I have taken:

Note that, it's very hard to see the lines on camera, and it's much easier to see them in person.

This first one shows a paint window with a solid grey fill on the monitor with the vertical lines:

This second one shows a comparison side by side of my LG monitor (left) with the bad Samsung monitor (right) with the same solid grey paint window:

    Thanks for the reply and,

Yes, I replaced the 6 CapXon caps with Nichicons with the exact same capacitance rating and voltage.

Edit: Sorry I forgot to mention, Yes Ive already tried re-seating the ribbon cable, however it only seems to be removable from one end. (LCD panel end)...
