Re: Keyboard problem on Dell Inspiron
Fixed! It was the touchpad ribbon cable! Swapped it with another one and it all works fine! Seems very strange that the touchpad cable should affect the keyboard operation, especially as the touchpad and buttons were working fine! Who knows!

Re: Keyboard problem on Dell Inspiron
After much investigation I have found that by disconnecting the touch pad from the motherboard the keyboard works fine! So, it looks like it might be something to do with the touchpad! I will update when I get to the bottom of it!

Re: Keyboard problem on Dell Inspiron
Thanks for the suggestion, I'll look into the connector, though I did think about the connection itself and with the number of times I changed it, with different keyboards, etc., it seems unlikely to be a connection problem, but I will scrutinise the connection to make sure. Please could you elaborate on the capacitor idea? What exactly would I be looking for? There are no shorted capacitors for sure... Thanks again...

Keyboard problem on Dell Inspiron
I have a Dell E1405 Inspiron, I refurbished it adding an updated (64 bit) CPU (T5500) among other things; I should mention I bought a job lot of 4 of the same laptop and did exactly the same with all of them. I also added an SSD and installed Windows 10. They all worked fine and I have since sold two of them. However, one developed a shorted motherboard; I'm looking into that, but the other one, which had been working just fine and I had put on sale, suddenly developed a keyboard problem. When you type r you get r5, q gets q', u gets u6 and so on. It's only the top two rows of the keyboard that...

Sound problem on HP Mini
I have an HP Mini 210-1014sa which I bought cheap “for spares”. When I got it I thought I'd give it a go just to see what problems it had, so I connected my power supply to it and turned it on; it booted to BIOS fine. So I added a hard drive with Windows 10 (32 bit) and it booted right into Windows and ran fine with one exception; no sound. I tried installing the IDT drivers (It was detecting the IDT device but wouldn't install the drivers for it) , but that didn't help. Still it was saying no audio device was available. So long story short, I ended up with Windows 7, Starter edition installed,...

Re: LG 42PC56 fault
Hi PlainBill,
I did measure all the voltage outputs (in the few seconds it was on each time) from the PSU board and they all matched the values stated on the board beside each pin; there were none missing or outside of spec. So it would appear that the PSU is OK. (I did replace the main capacitors already in the hope that this would cure the problem but it didn't; to be honest I didn't really expect it to because they all looked fine.). So, it is beginning to look like the main board? Is there anything else I should check before replacing that?...

Re: LG 42PC56 fault
Hi,
I have exactly the same problem described here. Switch it on, green light flashes 5 times, stays solid for a couple of seconds then goes red. In the process you hear a loud click from the set somewhere. I have already replaced the 7 main capacitors on the PSU, even though I couldn't see any sign of bulging or leaking and therefore had little hope that this could resolve the problem. I have also followed the troubleshooting technique described on this page of disconnecting the X and Y sustain cards in the orders stated. The set still fails to...
