  • Re: Another Dell 2405 FPW fails

    I've got the same problem. The output of the MOSFET in question is 3.3V (below the 5V it should supply), so I suspect that it might still be good. The 47uF and 220uF caps are of Jamicon brand. Do you think doing a complete recap would solve the issue or should I go straight for the 5V DC/DC converter instead?

    I recall doing a stupid thing once - throwing out an SGI Octane workstation that I had no use for, then going on e-bay out of curiosity to see if anyone still traded those things. They went for $4000-8000 at the time. God damnit!

    Made up for the loss over the years though, having found numerous LCD's with simple capacitor issues. Found a Sony Broadcast display just the other day. Found an old all-in-one compaq workstation with a green phosphorous CRT. The display circuit was separate from everything else with its own power supply operating...

    Hi, I'm a self-taught electrical engineer.

    Been repairing electronics since I was 5. Eventually transitioned from fixing into making circuits, designing gadgets and writing firmware. Got into a habit of buying broken big ticked items (such as LCD TV's) in order to fix them. Way too often busted caps are all there is, so I've been running into this site over and over again looking for solutions.

    Yesterday another device went dead - a Linksys SRX400 router. Problem? The infamous "Teapo" caps!...
