Re: RCUnlocker
So, I cut off the black plastics, leaving the 8 pins of the SOIC8-clip uncovered (did it carefully and slowly - not to break or cut the pins, too).
Pins' spacings seem to be ok.
Put a small piece of rubber/eraser between the legs of the clip - a little bit more than the WSONs 6mm in order to touch the copper-pads more exactly. Applied a rubberband over the spring of the clip in order to put some pressure to the pins contacting the copper-pads.
According to my magnifying glass everything seems to be ok - every pin seems to be...

You're both right. Your advice is most welcome....
I'll try to use the copper-pads directly without soldering, have to cut the black top plastics from a SOIC8-clip, hopefully the pins' distances will be ok..
Will report back...Re: RCUnlocker

Re: RCUnlocker
Hi, didn't work out....
Shaky hands, clumsy soldering iron, narrow space...
Don't get fooled by the pic/image in post #259 - no "big copper"-spots, about 2cm2 with tiny space between prone to soldering shortcuts (easy- and frequently)...
I'm again looking for other solutions/approaches....
Sigh....Re: RCUnlocker

Re: RCUnlocker
Thx - that's really good news, because they are not that "narrow" (space-limited)!
I'll give it a try over the weekend.
Will give feedback after that.

Re: RCUnlocker
Hi RethoricalCheese.
first of all: thanx a lot you for your work and very helpful tool!
If you look at
(not my board)..
Where exactly could those tiny wires be applied?
Is it sufficient to solder them to the small copper pads nearby?
Or does one have to exactly meet the soldered connections of the MXIC with the pcb - one can hardly see them on the image (and in real) ...
This is high precision work, needs a non-clumpsy soldering iron and non-shaky hands like mine ...

Re: RCUnlocker
Hi dualtrace,
thx for your response.
Your approach seems to be advanced in terms of effort and consideration :-)
Lost_N_BIOS quoted by winamax69 here also mentions this:
"Yes, both sides need heated up, especially if you are not using hot air station (ideally either way, heat bottom/entire board, then ton of heat on top of chip"
This approach means one has to disassemble further...

Re: RCUnlocker
Sorry to quote myself again...
So, what did I do/try till since my last post:
- I applied small amounts of [assumingly] resin-dissolving liquid (isopropanol).
- I tried to cut through the resin-based junction of pcb and chip with a razor-blade.
I'm not aware of any effects (or even success)...
- I again tried desoldering with the heat-gun for at least 30 seconds, only effect: shrinking label nearby...
I'd really appreciate any fruitful suggestion on how to proceed......

Sorry to quote my own post, but no reaction to it so far...
I found a similar prob over there "HP Elitebook 820 G3 BIOS problem" - https://www.win-raid.com/t5811f13-HP-Elitebook-G-BIOS-problem.html#msg102513:
"I wanted to desolder the chip, but it was bonden(in the middle)with resin to the pcb, that's why it is demaged finally."
So is there any easy way to "unbond" the IC (i.e. get rid of the...

Re: RCUnlocker
Hi there!
I'm trying to "desolder" a Macronix (MXIC) MX25L12873FZNI from a HP 820 G3 motherboard.
Even after applying 30 secs of 500° C from a heat-gun I can't move or remove the IC (plastic around already melting).
Could there be any other fixation like a glue or anything else?
If any - how to get rid of this?
