Re: A trick that might help you out in my (your) cold garage/shop...
Thanks for the tip, Scott. I ended up becoming frustrated with cheap-o soldering irons, and finally invested in a GREAT ceramic-element iron.
I think I paid near 50 dollars, but it's been in use for 3 years now, and heats up SUPER fast, and STAYS hot. I can do tiny jobs with a small chisel, and large jobs are even a piece of cake. I've soldered battery packs together for RC cars with this iron and a large chisel tip. And if you have done that, you KNOW that you need heat SUPER FAST and a LOT of it...

NICE -- are these considered "Solid" capacitors?
PNY Geforce Ti4200 card... Are these considered "solid" caps? You can see we lost a FET, too....

Re: I hate you guys -- I guess ignorance WAS bliss!
Thanks for the tips, gents. I hope my 'leet soldering skills are enough to get me through. Have a nifty ceramic element soldering iron I bought for soldering battery packs together when I used to do RC Cars for a hobby. I'll put the baby chisel tip on it, but I hope it's good enough for the job. I'm kicking myself that I didn't know to buy a "grounded" iron back when I bought it. I spent probably 40-50 bucks on this iron -- while it's not an Ungar or a Hakko, and doesn't have a power supply, it's always done whatever...Last edited by handyrandyrc; 03-01-2007, 11:32 AM.

Okay, I really don't HATE you, but you've made my world a WHOLE LOT bigger now! Sheeeeiiit!
I have had stability problems with my PC for months now, lockups, blue screens, error messages come up "Windows has recovered from a serious error". I get explorer.exe error messages. I've reloaded Windows and have the same symptoms. Someone on another forum asked about capacitors on my motherboard, and recommended THIS site. I now feel like I bought the biggest lemon components I could have possibly purchased.
