Re: Turn the wayback machine to 30-pin SIMMs
^ With your report, it has your name on it. Not sure if you want to fix that or not.

Re: Let the flames begin
Well I can't really say anything bad about any of them, since I have used all three and I know their advantages and disadvantages.
If Linux was able to play games, as in the newer ones, then I would use it in a heartbeat. I like the concept and there are a few really supported Distros.
Windows is obviously the one I use a lot. The main reason that I use Windows is because of the compatibility that it has with a lot of software.
Mac OS is interesting, but I would prefer to use Windows or Linux.
Sorry,...

Re: Apple G4 locked out
Here is a awesome trick to make a new Admin account on Mac OS X:
First reboot the machine while holding the apple and the s key.
Then you will open to "single user mode" which is text based.
Type and press enter:
mount -uw /
Then type and press enter:
rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone
Then type
Shutdown -h now
After you turn the Mac back on it should bring you to the new user of the machine, and you can make a new Admin account.

Re: Death of the desktop PC
I like my android cellphone, and what I can do on it, but it will never replace my laptop or my desktop. It doesn't do everything I want it to do, but I am not the general everyday user that uses it for facebook and twitter. I just can't see myself without a desktop, I just like it too much.

Re: Samsung HDDs
I've never had one in my machines before, but I have seen a lot of them die while I am testing them at work.

Re: Suggestions for newcomer to Linux
Thanks for all of the suggestions. So far, I know that Linux will not be replacing my Windows needs, but I do want to know how to use all of the major OS (ie, Windows, Mac, and Linux). I know about Wine, and how it can run windows programs.

Suggestions for newcomer to Linux
I am a total newbie when it comes to Linux. Since I am going to be installing Vmware on my desktop soon, I am wondering which distributions of Linux would be the best for me.
I have already used a little bit of Ubuntu, and I am planning on installing Linux Mint as well.
Any not well known distributions that people suggest?
Thanks for the help!

Re: What's *your* latest mess-up?
So I was trying to take apart a Toshiba laptop, so see if I could fix it. The problem was that the display kept flickering, so I was trying to get to the inverter, to see if I could fix it that way, but I broke the stupid connector for the keyboard. Well, that laptop went into the trash pile soon after that.

Re: New Members - please post your introductions here
Well, this is my intro post. I am currently a student, that works full-time at a used computer place, and this forum showed me the problems with bad caps, and it helps me with figuring out which models that we have are bad. I can't wait to learn more about this forum.
