    I'm just adding a few comments on the Fluke 27/FM.

    I bought 2 which were sent in a single large black case that they are often supplied in ex-military. Both easilly fitted in the single case & that saved on postage while giving me one case.

    NOTE: Only the earlier grey/green colour unit with Fluke 27/FM on the bezel above the LCD has true RMS.

    These things are built like bricks & use HRC Cartridge fuses about 1/2 inch in diameter. I put both of my meters across a variac & slowly ramped...

    Fit a heatshrink sleeve to the MOV.

    You will often find commercial circuits have a heatshrink sleeve fitted over the MOV. It is there for a very good purpose.

    More than once I had to work on gear after lightning storms. If there wasn't a heatshrink sleeve over the MOV I soon fitted one.

    More than once I powered a board up & the MOV exploded. One even destroyed the PCB under it but normally when they went bang bits went everywhere. Some times near by components were casualties. The first time one got me it left me with...

    WD40 will also swell some plastics. The military banned it from use with some electrical connectors because of causing the soft insulators to swell stopping the connectors seating properly & destroying waterproofing.

    A safer way is to get a blower used by watch repairers. There are some that are just a plastic squeeze bulb but the better ones have a plastic body with a piston in them. They are about 50mm in diameter (2 inches) with a thin metal tube coming out the end. Really old ones were all metal & show up from time to time on eBay.

    The military actualy had them in the soldering kits when I was in & used to blow dust out dry off solvent etc.

    A great little item. You would be surprised at the nice jet of air they put...

    Brian here from Sunny Queensland, Australia. Tinkerer with electrical trade & some electronics background. Haven't done much for a long time but getting back into setting up a nice bench.

    Love playing with lots of technology, computers early Crystal Wireless (when they used actual rock crystals)...
