Re: What did I damage
Are you suggesting a older bios flash?
----------
From my reading on PWMs and the model# of the components found close to the CPU fan header on this board, they are most definatly proponents of the PWM.
well. Thats just the thing.
NOW, theres the problem of the SMBUS causing 40% CPU spikes.
I need to check whether or not this only happens in speedfan or not.
BUT HERES MY QUESTION FOR YOU
Would the fan controller for the CPU fan be THAT far???...

Re: What did I damage
Bump.
I'm thinking the damage is around here.
It SHOULDNT be hard to isolate if someone with a bit more knowledge in electronics could help out.
This is where the components that make up the PWM are: (in the red circled area)...

Re: Mobo Blues - why me
Well. safe to say.
This board has never given a problem since.
I loved it, because of our history together.
But I gave it as a gift to someone as well as fixing up their lil home studio PC.
Felt good ^_^
All input given on this thread over its tenure was greatly appreciated btw.

Re: Big Heatsinks
I disagree with the notion that many of then Large coolers out there are just "bells n whistles"
I'll acknowledge READILY that a lot of them are. But in all my years of overclocking, the number of coolers that have been SMALLER, yet more efficient in dissipating heat have certainly been less than has the inverse.
For your proc, there's a nice list of choices.
The TT Tower is good.
Pretty quite, and a GREAT cooler (you arent cooling, so it will be exceptional in your case)

Re: What did I damage
P.S
The system now detects a hoard of new sensors!!??
Weird.
Speedfan Also continually gets error messages from the SM bus. (popping up in its status window.)
It brings the CPU up to 45% load in increments each time it does this!

Re: What did I damage
I dont seem to be able to edit my own first posts.
So I'll have to DP
Here's what the mod SHOULD look like, vs what I did.
(I tried replacing with a cap of the same values to get the right frequency for the PWM, didnt work)
Close by are a set of resistors, an IC and a three legged component, I think is also another IC, or transistor)
I want to know which I probably damaged by running 12v (NEGATIVE- I THINK) into the board....Last edited by Grimuls; 12-04-2008, 02:25 PM.

What did I damage
Hello Gentlefolks.
Here's my story. I really hope you can help.
Some time ago, I made a simple little mod for my PC motherboard (model seen below)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ShowImage.aspx?Image=13-130-491-09.jpg%2c13-130-491-10.jpg%2c13-130-491-11.jpg%2c13-130-491-03.jpg%2c13-130-491-05.jpg&S7ImageFlag=0&WaterMark=1&Item=N82E16813130491&Depa=0&Description=MSI%20K8N%20Neo4-F%20ATX%20AMD%20Motherboard
It was simple really.
What I did, was to get faster speeds from the CPU FAN by bypassing the fan's...

Re: Mobo Blues - why me
Good news guys!
(though its a bit late :o :p)
I bridged the resistor, and the system is functioning!
Thing is though - that I'm pretty sure that as a result of that...
the board is overvolting!.
Of course we know that resistors RESIST current - so naturally, if one isnt present, we can understand how more voltage than was designed for.. could come through :\
It killed an AGP card if i didnt mention, and incidentally... it was the RESISTORS.. ON THE CARD.. that get hot (in...

Re: Mobo Blues - why me
OK, thats sounds good, AND BAD :\
I'm going to look on the PCB, but in the case that its not marked there...
How can I find out the value of the capacitor? :\
--------EDIT---------
ok I took a look, only the resistors on top of the PCB are labelled - they must've thought the ones round back werent important- I dont see anythere.
What's next - a schematic diagram maybe?. How will I find out what resistor this is - I really need a mobo - this has to...

Re: Mobo Blues - why me
Thanks much for the responces
OK firstly, That pic was of my actual Mobo (I apologize for the confusion) - it was just a random pic I picked to illustrate what I was taking about.
I dont have a camera close to me right now, so I'm afraid that such examples are the only ones I'll be able to provide.
Here's another more accurate one. If I'm not mistaken, this is a resistor, I hear they may also be capacitors, but.. I'm not aware of that.
I'd really hope these components are indeed replacable - I've worked...

Mobo Blues - why me :(
Hello Reader
Where to start....Ive been without a good system because of the lack of a good motherboard, for some months now.
Truth be told, I've been having hard luck with my PC parts. (I have no money to buy any really, and the ones I have are dying.
Anywho, right now am most dissapointed. With what I dont know.. but I have to be with SOMETHING, so right now I'm blaming my self.
Here's the story,
I recapped a Gigabyte motherboard (SKT 462),and I was soo happy. It was just one of those board that was laying by the way, that you would...Last edited by Grimuls; 02-21-2007, 07:37 PM.
