Re: RTX2060/NCP81611 Issue
The card works fine now. Not totally sure I can claim to have fixed it.
I took the card apart again and noticed that I had a thermal pad in the wrong place, instead of being on top of the inductors it was over the section of the card with the crystal and the logical and gate for PEXRST. I moved the pad and put the card back together. Works fine, every time.
I cannot imagine that doing this actually fixed anything however it has.
The fault had me baffled, I could never really understand why the card never started...

Re: RTX2060/NCP81611 Issue - Now Boots
Card now boots. Embarrassed to say I'd installed a resistor in the wrong place on the card, there is a series of empty pads with the odd resistor here and there. I recall changing the NCP81611 and having to sort out one that had blown off the pads. Put it back on the wrong place.
Still got the odd booting issue. Need to soft power off at first boot then it starts fine....

RTX2060/NCP81611 Issue
Questions on the NCP81611 please, my RTX2060 was working with an odd issue of the not powering on at first boot, always needed a soft reboot then ran fine.
The card originally had a blown fuse and faulty DRMos, I'd fixed them and the can ran since albeit with the boot issue.
Issue now is the Vcore has gone AWOL.
The controller is a NCP81611, I've changed this twice with no change.
I've been using a schematic for the MSI 2060/2070, this seems very close although my board is a Palit which seems to have a few less components on it.

Re: Palit RTX2060 Odd Startup Behaviour
I've discovered that VCORE is not starting on first boot, if i power off using the power button a second later the pc boots again itself and VCORE and PEX appear. If I leave the pc in the VGA detected state for a minute the pc will not power off with the power button unless I hold it for 4 seconds. Effectively forcing the pc to shutdown. It does not then boot and run itself.
Does anyone recognise this behaviour, the pc starting itself after a failed start and soft power off?

Re: Palit RTX2060 Odd Startup Behaviour
Replaced the AND gate on the PEX RST and behaviour is still the same.
Began wondering if the BIOS might be the issue but ran into a bit of an odd situation.
The core on this RTX 2060 is a TU-104, from a quick look about it seems this is a binned 2080 die, one that didn't make the grade as a 2080. Strange thing is I thought it was only the EVGA 2060 KO that came with this TU-104, never a Palit.
Not sure if putting a new firmware on it is too risky, kinda feels like it is.
Still trying...

Palit RTX2060 Odd Startup Behaviour
Hopefully this is an easy one, I just don't understand what is going on.
Got a faulty Palit RTX 2060, had a shorted DrMos and a blown fuse. Replaced both and the card boot and runs fine. Stress testing is fine.
The only issue I have is when I plug the card into my test rig, on first boot it is never detected. The VGA LED never goes out. If i power down using the power button, not the PSU, the test rig powers down then a second later starts up itself and boots fine. Card is detected and works perfectly.
I think the issue is to do with the PEX reset,...

MATS/MODS Testing
I have a GTX 960 2GB that I have replaced a memory module.
Prior to the replacement MATS gave an error on A1. After the replacement I get no errors.
The cards can runs fine until about 20 minutes into a Heaven loop, the I get a black screen or a frozen messed up display. Needs a power reset to correct. Always boots fine and always passes MATS test.
My question, are there an other MODS tests I can run to detect an error?

GTX 1070 Last Set of PCIe Caps Open Line
Quick question, confirming my suspicions, i have a card with the last set PCIe caps on the card measuring open line in diode mode.
Is this repairable?
The card is not recognised in my AM4 test PC in the x16 slot.
Card works fine in a PCIe x4 slot, boots and runs without issue. Never works in an X16 slot.
Thanks.

Re: Inno GTX 1060 6GB Compact - Missing Component
I have the original vBIOS that was on the card, not sure if that is the correct or original version.
Did manage to get mats working. It gives an eye-watering amount of read errors, every module has them. I'm leaning towards this being a hardware issue now....Last edited by manuforti1314; 06-02-2022, 01:53 PM.

Re: Palit GTX 680 2GB - Failure
I am only learning/practicing on repairing faulty cards I buy off eBay. I would not be able to replace a GPU. Can replace BIOS chips though, usually pretty straighforward....

Re: Palit GTX 680 2GB - Failure
Sounds like a VRAM issue. Normally you would want to run MATs, the nVidia VRAM test application, this should identify the faulty module.
No clue if that would work on a Mac. It is normally on a usb flash drive and is a Linux based program run on a PC.

Re: GTX 670 Resistor Missing by GDDR5 Module
The only boardview i can find for a GTX670 is an Asus board. The layout around the memory looks identical to the Palit I have however the values of the resistors are different. The part I am missing is the one highlighted in Red on the boardview. On the Asus board it is 1.33k Ohm, the part on my board is 350ohm.
Still not sure how critical the 350 ohm resistor is in value. It connects VREFC1 on the module to GND.
Need to read more on what VREFC1 does....

Re: Resistor Missing by GDDR5 Module
The VRAM is SKhynix H5GQ2H24AFR it is on a GTX 670.
Never thought to look up the module datasheet. I'll try and track one down.
Thanks.
Edit - Card is a Palit GTX 670 Jetstream....Last edited by manuforti1314; 03-19-2022, 04:59 AM.

GTX 670 Resistor Missing by GDDR5 Module
Quick question, I changed a vram module and managed to lose a 350ohm 0402 resistor. Don't have a direct replacement can a 330ohm be used or can it be left off?
Cheers

Re: GTX 1060 6GB - Not Recognized Properly
I have a GTX 1060 6gb Inno 3D Compact. Doing exactly the same thing. Mine loads the up to date drivers fine in Windows. Just GPU-Z is missing info and the sensors tab has only 4 sensor readings, which look wrong.
I managed to run MATS by booting with a primary card. Full of read errors.
I was thinking vBIOS, either the chip or the actual vBIOS. The one on TechPowerUp in unverified, but the same as the one on the card. I bought the card not working so do not know if the previous owner flashed...

Re: Opening the LG 25UM58-P Monitor
I have worked out how to do this. The panel comes out the front of the case.
2 screws on the underside of the main case allows the lower LG bezel to be pried off. Once this is off I removed the stand and lay the unit on the back.
Then comes the scary part. The panel has a plastic parts on the sides that wrap to the back. The clips are on the back not the sides. I took 2 thin metal spudgers and on the top right corner of the screen put one in between the case and panel on the horizontal and the other on the vertical,...
