Re: Samsung PS50A557S3F
I checked them out of circuit and they are fine....i get continuity across the pads that they sit on...back to head scratching...

Samsung PS50A557S3F
Been looking at this tv for a friend. It powers up, blue light is steady. and all voltages are present and correct but there's no picture. After much deliberation I knew that the problem must be either the y-sus or buffer or both... I had already checked all of the caps / mossfets etc on the x and y-sus boards but found no issues there but a more in-depth check of the y-sus (LJ92-01549A) found that 3 of the smd diodes are short. These are D5029 / D5030 and D5040. They all have the same markings which are K4 8G, which i believe are rectifier diodes.
I want to replace these just for the...

Re: Antec SL350P PSU
You might want to remove and check R109 too. They are low ohm resistors and blow easily and in your case it looks like something has gone on under that heat shrink in pic3. It will be less than 1ohm. The one next to it is a 0.15ohm 3W check that too. Another bit that blows is the 2A ultra fast rectifying diode buried in there somewhere. UF2007 or similar, they go short. I'm working on an AR300 at the mo and all these parts have blown along with the fuse, mosfets etc etc.

Re: Aspire 7520G - blank screen
It is out of range bcz the monitor can't produce the resolution of the laptop. Switch it on then press F8 till you get the menu then boot in VGA mode. If you can then see windows the problem is probably the inverter.

Ar300 psu
Hiya folks... i'm just about done rebuilding an AR300 but need to double check the correct orientation of the zener diode. can anyone tell me if the bent leg is the anode or cathode, or the black ring in the diode would it be at the top or the bottom in Sylvester's photo. ?? i don't want to do all that work and have it fail cuz the diode is back to front.... the one i took out was too badly damaged to tell....

That info is very useful .... thank you for taking the time to post it.

Re: Two caps instead of 1 ?
hi Kaboom,
To be honest i'm not sure what it's called. It controls the motors, i quess that's what the relays are for. How they can charge £163 for one is beyond me. All the components on that board could be replaced for about £10. The hardest part was finding that capacitor. There are lots of 400v caps but it had to be rated at 400vac not 400vdc hence the one i used was 875vdc/400vac and just managed to shoehorn it in.
It was a small project but i still get a buzz when it is working again.
Thanks everyone for your help ....

Re: Two caps instead of 1 ?
Well ... you'll all be pleased to know that the freezer is working again...
the two pics are before and after. I replaced the small triac too as it was sometimes giving dodgy readings.
Fitted it today and the freezer fired up like a good un...
Price for appliance man to come out and fit new module = £200
Actual cost for parts and repair = £4.98...

Re: COBY 24" LCD TV - 2 seconds to black
Is that a damaged track or a scratch near FX1

Hot hot hot !!!
Here's one i thought i'd share....
I had a Cibox 17in monitor in yesterday. Fault reported was that the display stayed on for a second or two then nothing.
Upon opening and looking at the power board .... i found this...
How this didn't end up in flames i'll never know but it shows just how hot they can get if something goes wrong. It got so hot it almost burned through the board and it melted the insulation sheet between the board and chassis....

Re: Toshiba L300
sorry, my mistake. Maybe the mods will move it for me...into the laptop section... but yes, i connected a monitor and nothing. No post and no HDD activity.

Toshiba L300
I've got a Tosh L300 with no graphics. It charges the battery and the power light comes on when the button is pressed. So far so good. The fan kicks in and chips get warm but no video. Any ideas anyone ??
Laptops are deffo a different beast than PC's. Is this a common fault on these or is it going to be a long job tracking down the problem ?

Re: is this hot air rework station suiteable for recapping?
you don't want to be soldering with hot air, unless it's smd work and solder paste. The heat generated to remove caps would be unnecessary and you risk damaging the board or having other components like smd caps fall off or slide about. A good soldering iron is the best tool to remove caps. Personally i use an iron and solder sucker but some prefer to use braid. Each to their own.

Re: Two caps instead of 1 ?
the ones at mouser are electrolytic and dc. I need 875vdc/400vac. I have found a good match B32674D8225K but nobody has stock.....just have to wait i guess or tell them to buy a new freezer...

Thanks for the link but the minimum order on that is 800 pieces !!

Re: Two caps instead of 1 ?
This is the original cap removed from the board. It's only showing a capacitance of .5uf on the meter. I managed to find the exact one on uk-mouser but with a minimum buy of 265 units !!
Rant Time .... this is the 21st century and an otherwise perfectly good fridge freezer will be scrapped because of a £2 part that is unavailable to buy as a single piece.
Someone somewhere must have one of these, or an equivalent, but i'm ****** if i can find one....

Re: SANWA multimeters?!
I have a Sanwa analogue meter ..... it's the same one that Justine Yong uses in some of his vids and if it's good enough for him, it's good enough for me.
