Re: pioneer pdp505pg plasma help
I have found a tech who is willing to help me solve this issue,, also i have (on its way ) a pdp 435 which has the same power supply. I have noticed on second hand sites in NZ ,alot of pioneers are bombing out. Fingers crossed as this solving this could help out alot of plasma lovers.
will keep updating as I know the frustration of reading forums only to get to a dead end because the final results are not added,.

Re: pioneer pdp505pg plasma help
I am pleased to report a little progress, with the x and y board unplugged I have turned off a switch on the digital, video board (which in the service manual says turns off all high volts and lets only the small volts thru) and the power supply stays on for a good whopping 15 secs then turns off completly (not power down) the ps board will turn back on by pressing the normal stanby/on button.
small acheivment i know ,but a change in the normal power down pattern

Re: pioneer pdp505pg plasma help
thanks for your post,
yes I have done a massive amount of reading ......
the service manual describes the action of the leds on the boards themselves,
if a red led lites up on the digital, video board its not the power supply....
if the orange led lites up on the power supply its a power supply problem.....
to confirm this I unpluged the x and y boards and sure enough the leds on the digital video board lite up.....
replacing the x and y plugs produced the orange led on the power supply......

Re: pioneer pdp505pg plasma help
Ive read a few threads here that suggest reading volts across the tops of caps?? to an earth ?? Is this a suitible way to test caps or is it just to see if they are working or not??
thanks for any answers

Re: pioneer pdp505pg plasma help
everything is powering up, all the 6.5volts went slightly higher, would this be the problem?? such a small amount over??? I did notice the volts raced up with all the 6.5 v outputs until powerdown while the 12 and 16.5 volts slowed the closer they got to the amounts i ended up with
thanks then and now and then

Re: pioneer pdp505pg plasma help

Re: pioneer pdp505pg plasma help
there are chk points on the board which Ive numbered, there details are
1, PFC OVP ON/OFF
2, PFC OVP CHK
3,+16.5V CHK
4,+12V CHK
7,VADR CHK
8,VSUS CHK
9,RV203 VSUS ADJ
10,STB 3.3V CHK
There doesnt seem to be a 5 or 6??
also (second image) there is white residue on this component,i cannot read whats written on it, it is hard to scrap off, and no other compnents have it??
if these photos are good enough for now, I will put the board back in...

pioneer pdp505pg plasma help
Hi, I have a pioneer plasma that is doing the two led blinks on the front ....,power supply
Firstly i am capable of testing and fixing
things just dont have the knowlegde and experience to do it confidently....
once turned on it clicks the relay and simply cuts out after a sec.
I have done a huge amount of searching on alot of sites and tried to educate myself to fix this.....,also tried to hunt down a service manual not much success.
anyway I have taken the back off and inspected the power supply and there are no obvious signs...
