My X1 Yoga Gen 3 fingerprint reader doesn't work at all. BIOS says "not fingerprint device is attached."

I thought maybe it was the fingerprint reader itself so I bought a known good replacement. It still doesn't work. So I replaced the cable; it still doesn't work.

Finally, I tested the pins on the connector that's on the motherboard side--6 out of 8 of the pins are shorted to ground.

I'm wondering if someone can give me some pointers on which ICs to test and maybe replace. Thanks in advance!
