Re: Short theory
Continuity mode, well on this mode it beeps if it goes under 50ohms i think, but it also displays resistance. So it might just be resistance mode with the little continuity beep on my particular meter. I can also check without the beep but readings are basically the same just having the beep is the only difference....Last edited by TheAnswer305; 11-24-2021, 09:59 AM.

Re: Short theory
As a follow up, is there degrees of shorts? Can i have a short that wont get hot but is still grounding the power rail? i thought all shorts would end up showing on the flir....

Re: Short theory
Okay the definitely makes sense, thanks! Would that voltage cause all caps to show continuity on both sides of the caps? from what ive usually seen itll only sound on both sides if a component is giving a short somewhere...

Re: Short theory
They are showing continuity with ground even without power though....

Re: Short theory
Thanks. Yes I read this somewhere and started going at 1v. However, given that the bench doesn't limit and show less volts, it means there's NOT a short right? But why do I have continuity on so many caps from ground?...

Short theory
Hi guys, so i am in the process of repairing a couple motherboards and ive come across something that im not quite understanding. Maybe you guys can help me out.
So i am checking the motherboard and find i have several areas of caps that have a short to ground, being that both sides give continuity when testing against a ground pad. Now i know this might be okay for some caps but this is a lot of caps doing this so im thinking theres a short. So i injected a small amount of voltage on a larger cap. I sent it in at 3v 1a to be safe and low, i saw some mosfets get hot and the bench...Last edited by TheAnswer305; 11-22-2021, 04:23 PM.

HP Laptop, MB LA-C781p Ver 1.0
Hi all looking for schematic for this old HP laptop. Dads house got hit by lightning and i guess the voltage went through the phone line into the laptop through the USB that was the only thing that wasnt connected to a surge protector.
Anyhow, this is a pretty old laptop, i cant seem to find the schematics, anyone have sch or boardview for it?
Board is LA-C781PLast edited by TheAnswer305; 11-11-2021, 09:08 PM.

Re: Macbook Air A2337 820-02016
Haha, thanks for the reply, yes i jumped off the deep end. The price was right so lets see if it turns out to be good. Even if i learn then its still a great investment. ill get some better pictures and follow up, i was hoping someone with the same board could point me to testing specific parameters in components.
i have the schematics so ill start prodding around until some more help comes. Thanks again!...

Macbook Air A2337 820-02016
Hi everyone, lurked this sub quite a bit and have learned a lot. I have been into repairing game consoles for a while but recently saw a water damaged Air for really cheap so i jumped on it.
Being new to the apple logic boards, i'm kind of lost on finding and following the power rails so i'm tapping into the best repair minds i know.
Symptoms: In the case, the charging port show 5.05v and 0 amps.
Outside of the case, same 5.05v and no amps.
Here is the board with the damage before i cleaned it up.
