    Re: RCUnlocker

A general question about flashing an image to the EC. Instead of patching the image in the ROM is it not sufficient to flash the ROM with the manufacturer's copy of the BIOS binary?

Re: Request Lenovo X1 Gen6 BIOS

Thank you for preparing this binary. I have not been able to test it yet. I was using my clip so much that it wore out and no longer works. Until I get a replacement clip, I may not be able to test.

Anyway, this binary you have provided clears some ME flags. Do I flash the same winbond chip (W25Q128JV) with this binary? Do you think it will work? Can you tell me if this operation will reset the security flags in the EC?

    Thanks.
Did not work. System continues to power cycle on then off at 1-2 sec intervals.
What was the origin of this file BTW?...

    Re: ME Firmware Cleaning Guide

Linux defaults to PS2 emulation if the HID/I2C/Smbus protocols are not found. So what you are seeing is basic PS2 emulation of the touchpad under Linux. That means the necessary HID device structures have not been integrated into the firmware when you modified the firmware....

    Request Lenovo X1 Gen6 BIOS

I managed to brick a X1G6 using the autopatcher method for clearing a SVP. Clearly the state of the firmware was not I could have guessed from the instructions given to clear the SVP.

If I remove the CMOS battery the unit power cycles multiple times. The power LED is on at the initial state for a mere second then the unit goes off.

I tried flashing the original BIOS back but the symptoms remain and the system doesn't POST..

My feeling is I have to clear more of the firmware.

Anyone know what I'm talking about?...

Does the Lenovo autopatcher not work for X1 Gen7?

Guest user will not allow you to reset security. I have alteady fixed it by setting a new Administrator password and then deleteing the user that way and then clearing the BIOS Admin password again.

I personally hate what the industry does with BIOS passwords. Setting passwords renders system next to useless in the event that passwords get lost. The security gains from setting BIOS passwords are questionable at best. In the end it's an immense waste of resources.

Actually there is a trick to solve this problem. You need to set a fresh BIOS Administrator password. Then login again as Administrator using your new password and then delete users and their corresponding passwords from there on. So this is perfectly sound and logical so long as the device can be fully accessed as the Administrator.

Cool, thanks for replying my question. For a moment there I thought I was speaking Chinese and no could understand what I was asking.

Thanks for your effort at preparing this binary for me. Unfortunately it did not work. The only difference now is user string Sam Mason has been substituted for a blank string. The user password is still expected. Did you just replace the user string by hand? Or do you have a specific tool that you are using? It would be good to have this information but if it's proprietary and if the IP...

    Re: HP BIOS unlock tool

I have a HP 840 G1 with a BIOS Administrator password and a User password. I downloaded the firmware to a file but after applying the patch and flashing the firmware back, the Administrator password has removed but the user is still there. As such I am only able to login as Guest user. Although the Guest user does not allow me to clear any other users. The tool has not cleared any BIOS users with password. It would be helpful to know what does the tool actually do and is there a way to clear out users as well as their corresponding passwords from the BIO...

Some BIOS's allow to set a user with password. For example the HP EliteBook 840 has this feature.
Will this tool clear user passwords in the BIOS?

Just to clarify this is the BIOS from the HP EliteBook 800 series G1 notebook (HP 820/840/850).

    Not the EliteDesk 800.

I have a locked BIOS from an HP800 series G1. The BIOS has both an Administrator and a User. I managed to unlock the Administrator using the HPUnlocker tool. All I can do now is enter as Guest User. Can someone kindly clear the user?...

    Re: HP BIOS unlock tool

Is it possible to do a verification of the password data in the BIOS dump? If I load the dump into a hex editor then at which part of the file should I expect to see a password or a cleared password? Are cleared passwords simply marked as 0 at said section of the dump? Essentially what is the algorithm that the tool uses to clear passwords? Knowing this will be helpful in working with dumps from a safety standpoint.
