Re: Dell 2407WFPb Monitor - Bad Cap
I'm back. Sorry for the delay. I replaced the 450V capacitor with the correct capacitor and still nothing. Now I'm convinced that its not the capacitor. Perhaps its the fuse? I bought a cheap digital multimeter but I don't know how to use it. I have read online to put it in continuance mode but I don't think my multimeter has that functionality. Is there another way to test the fuse?

Re: Dell 2407WFPb Monitor - Bad Cap
I'm going to purchase a multimeter for next week when I attempt to repair this little bad boy. Anyway, the real question is: once I have a multimeter how do I use it?
I put one lead on one end of the cap/resistor/etc and the other lead on the other end and the screen should read what? And I assume I can do this with all parts I suspect to be bad or are there special instructions for certain pieces? Lastly, if the capacitor is standing and i can't measure from the top, I can flip the board around and use the same endpoints on the...

Re: Dell 2407WFPb Monitor - Bad Cap
It looks like all of these 2407s have the same problem. Maybe it was caused by a bad batch of the 450v capacitors?

Re: Dell 2407WFPb Monitor - Bad Cap
Hey guys I'm back. Forgive me for the extended departure, work has kept me very busy as of late. Upon further inspection I cannot find any other blown/bad resistors/capicitors/etc. Now, remember I'm not an expert on electronics so I could be wrong but it looks like everything else is intact.
My new 450V capacitors are in and the specs are all good. I'll be putting one of these bad boys in sometime next week. I do have one minor concern though. When removing the silicon from underneath the 450V capacitor I scratched the surface of...

Re: Dell 2407WFPb Monitor - Bad Cap
Toasty: I tried everything that you suggested. I soldered the "wire" to the capacitor and then soldered the wire to the power board and nothing. I still get no power. Now, I'm not sure if my wire was enameled or not. I stripped the plastic from the wire and used the exposed copper by itself. I did not sand the wire down at all. But then again I could not find the word enameled anywhere on the packaging.
I realized yesterday that soldering is not as easy as I thought it would be. I definately suck at soldering. I think...

BlkSmth: Thats the capacitor I ended up buying. Its a snap-in, the leads aren't long enough to reach the holes.

Re: Dell 2407WFPb Monitor - Bad Cap
Toasty: I'm sorry, I misread post #13. Instead, I cut the leads as close to the board as possible. So, now that I have managed to mess that up, where do I find this wire that you are talking about?
To be honest, I don't know how comfortable I feel with using a snap-in capacitor for this job. I would rather use the "correct" capacitor with the long leads but whatever. Maybe thats just because I'm a crazy (OCD) fool.
Also, about post #18:
1) I don't own any plastic tools and I've never had to...

Toasty: You want me to use the old leads? Just solder those onto the snap-in cap and then solder to the power board?

Re: Dell 2407WFPb Monitor - Bad Cap
Off topic question: I need a tool to help remove some silicon from the board. I can always use a screwdriver but is there a tool that was designed specifically for this purpose? I would rather not risk scratching the surface of the IC board.

Dude BlkSmth I just saw your post...two second too late.
The specs are 450V 120uF:
Any help is appreciated.

Re: Dell 2407WFPb Monitor - Bad Cap
I found a reference on mouser electronics in another post and I found these two caps:
Nichicon - UPZ2W121MHD
http://******/lYYf4s
Nichicon - UPT2W121MRD
http://******/mo5dQ8
I ordered one of each even though one of them is on backorder until the armageddon...Re: Dell 2407WFPb Monitor - Bad Cap<...*/lYYf4s

Re: Dell 2407WFPb Monitor - Bad Cap
So the capacitor arrived and its a snap-in. In other words, It's worthless to me. The only non-snap-in cap that fits my specs on digikey is out of stock and with a minimum qty of 250. Any suggestions?

I found them. It's FOAI not FDAI. pretty confusing if you ask me.

Okay I get it, its not a perfect process is what you're telling me. Sometimes you need to substitute one for another. Well, so far I have been pretty fortunate. I have found suitable replacements for all of the power board caps without too much trouble.
This guy is the only one that still eludes me. I cant find the manufacturer to get the ripple current specs.
U32 might be the series?
I guess, going by what you said earlier, the only thing left now would be to go with the specs I have...

Re: Dell 2407WFPb Monitor - Bad Cap
Alright so this is what I have come up with for the power board. This is as far as I can go for today. I cannot find the FDAI brand anywhere and I can't pull the specs from ELITE's site from any browser. Hopefully Elite's site will work better tomorrow. Has anyone heard of the FDAI brand?
EDIT: I took toasty's link from earlier () and altered the link to reflect the different series ( and ) and it worked!! All I'm missing to complete the power board is to figure out the FDAI mystery.
FDAI (I think)
