Retired pilot/mechanic, classical musician. Put together two Fisher Stratakit FM Stereo Tuner and Amplifier in the 60s- enjoyed the task, but not a good solderer!!. Have been involved with [what was] high-end hi-fi-stereo, tape recording, and since the introduction of 'silver platters', just enjoyed the music Loved a smaller Sony Trinitron TV for years, then a larger one, and have been enjoying my LG 50" Plasma over the last decade. LG Plasma 50PA5500. Sound, no picture !!
Sorry if this is too repetitive, or in the wrong place.
I'm new, and having much the same problem. My LG50PA5500 TV has been working flawlessly since new. The other day, while in the midst of watching a broadcast DTV channel, the entire screen suddenly and silently went dark (no snaps, crackles or pops); sound, channel selection and inputs all work OK.
I have checked connections and voltages from: stdby, pwr supply board fuses, psb output voltages to Zsus board and its fuse, output voltages from Zsus to Ysus and its fuse. All precisely normal!! I've also checked voltages to the...

I have a large Pioneer. Its reel motors work independently of the capstan drive, like yours. After a time in storage, I had to replace the [capstan]motor-to-captstan-idler drive belt. It had 'frozen' to the flywheel. Worked like a charm after that!! I always thought of the electronics as being bulletproof, like the heads. Maybe a cap went bad, but check the mechanicals first. One caution; when you get around to cleaning the pinch rollers, be VERY CAREFUL of the cleaning fluid you use. Good old isopropyl may- in the long run- dry out the rollers...
