Re: Need help identifying a component. Supermicro X9DRL-iF
Thanks for the info guys. Can anyone recommend a cheap but adequate LCR or capacitance meter? I found this on Amazon...

Will it do what is needed?

Need help identifying a component. Supermicro X9DRL-iF
Sorry this isn't exactly cap related but I don't know where else to ask. I have a Supermicro X9DRL-iF board and the customer told me that a bad power supply caused these components to blow after he tried a 2nd identical board and the same components blew.
I need your guy's help, can anyone tell me what these components are called? and where can I find replacements? He would like to get both boards working again. I can't see any markings on them, and I haven't desoldered them yet. I will probably desolder two good ones from the other board just to see if it will even work and worth...

Dell PS XW784 DPS-250AB-28 Inspiron 531S fixed!
Just an FYI, I was able to revive a fairly new Dell power supply XW784 aka DPS-250AB-28 that was out of a Dell Inspiron 531S that wouldn't turn on. There was a lone 16v 1500uf cap that had bulged. I didn't desolder it but just pulled it out with pliers, I noticed that one of the leads just pulled right out of the solder joint as if it wasn't attached. I soldered a new Rubycon in and it started right up!

Re: GX270 Substitute cap values?
!!!!!!!!!! EDIT !!!!!!!!!
OK hold up, I'm an idiot. I had my values all messed up.
Correction:
The ones along the cpu are 1800uf, I have on hand a bunch of 6.3v 1800uf 8x20mm Rubycon MCZ caps, can I use these to replace the five 6.3v 1500uf 10x12.5mm ones around the ram slots???? I've read I can use 10v 1500uf, but have all these 1800uf and would like to use them if I could.

GX270 Substitute cap values?
This GX270 I have has 9 6.3v 1800uf 8x20mm caps all along the cpu and I have on hand a bunch of 6.3v 1500uf 8x20mm Rubycon MCZ caps. Will these work? or do I HAVE TO use 1800uf?
I already plan on using them to replace the 1500uf 10x12.5mm ones around the ram slots.
Let me know please, thanks!

Re: 4v caps?
Question: Is it safe to assume those yellow guys in the middle will be ok? They are 4v 560uf and it says M 4D51U on the side. So are they Sanyo? -according to the K graphic on page 1 of this thread.

Re: 4v caps?
I just got a Dimension 8400 today and it has 4v caps too. I found this thread and wanted to make sure the 6.3v are ok. 4 of the 8 are spewin out the bottom, the others haven't budged. Hmmm.....

Check them, how? they're brand new...from the 7 piece kit on eBay. Would they fry instantly? Solder looks good....

Re: Fix for Benq FP737s 17" (Q7T3)
Well CRAP!! It didn't work! I got the kit on ebay and replaced all 7 parts and resoldered the transformers as well as resoldered a few other suspiciously lame looking solder joints. Nothing shows up on the screen now, just the power LED blinks about every 1.5 seconds AND I can hear a faint tick sound. Like what HelpQuick experienced... What is this a symptom of? what can I try next? replace all/most of the caps? Btw, I'm not an electrical guru, I just have a A....

LOOK people! 9 times out of 10, Cold solder joints DO exist on the board. Looky what I found on mine! BE SURE TO REMELT OR (better yet) RESOLDER THE TRANSFORMERS!!!
btw, this is from a Dell E172FP / E172FPbRe: Fix for Benq FP737s 17" (Q7T3)

Re: Dell Dimension 4500 bad cap
Success!!!I replaced those 5 caps and all is well, at first I didn't think it was working because the comp would shutdown after about a minute or less of being on, Turns out I didn't have the CPU heatsink clamped down all the way. doh!

Dell Dimension 4500 bad cap
Have a client with a dead mobo, won't even turn on. Didn't notice the bulged cap until I started removing the mobo. The brown cap is a KZG 6.3v 3300uF. I suspect the green one has a bulged bottom, gonna desolder it and see what's up. It is a TEAPO 16v 2200uF. see pics...
I was reading another thread that their Dimension 4550 had some noisy mosfets as well. I hope that isn't the case with this one. I assume it's a similar board. *crosses fingers*
I'll update later...Have a client with a...

Re: MSI K7T Turbo2
I'm in the US, Washington State.
I literally hold the mobo under the faucet in the tub. If it's really bad from smokers and tar caked on dust, I usually take a toothbrush and some liquid dish soap and scrub on the whole thing. Then I shake off the drops and stick it in the microwave on high for a minute or two... haha, jk. I shake off the drops and let it dry in front of a fan or outside in the sun for about a day. Usually 12 hours in front of a fan will do. I usually blow the water out of the cpu socket and memory slots...Last edited by fety; 07-16-2007, 01:54 AM.

Re: MSI K7T Turbo2
The Nichicon caps are HM(M) What about the different uf value? I know nothing about caps.
btw, that mobo and the case got a bath right after, I didn't want to wash away the evidence before I took the pics. You should have seen the CPU and heatsink, though I washed it first. Damn chain smokers and a dusty house, I hate those type of clients.
