  • BQ24738h - not charging - HP Model G7BJ - dag7bjmb8c0 Rev. C

    Hello dear tech freaks :-)

can i have your thought on this one ? I have no clue. In lack of schematics I used HP 15-p DAY11AMB6E0 for orientation in the BQ24738H area. I have no experience with this power IC.

The machine had a full short on +vin, caused by a dropped screw in the owners attempt to replace the battery. After removing the biggest among 4 small caps on that line, right at the input of PQ36 the machine was working again.

Everything seemed to work and after a while of testing I noticed that pq36/pq37 were reaching about 130C. One...

  • Re: A1989 (820-00850) - 5V@0.23A - shorted usbc cable

Hello dear helping people ! Sorry for never replying, I was damn out of order the last months. The problem is yet unsolved, did not spend a single second since back then. Will definetely get my head into this again bur rather in February because I have more urging things right now. Some of them electronics too so I will post for seeking help regarding other subjects before I continue in this one. I will check again with original 90+ apple charger, which I did not have back then. 4x4 LDOs to measure to be done. You mean each time...

mixed something up so here pp20v_usbc_??_vbus resistances correction:

Only took traditional resistance now. Will maybe check later if I maybe made a mistake as well noting down Rs red GND.

hey guys, thanks for helping out !

my soldering should be fine. due to often too low air flow for a real dance I confirm with light taps on the side if all is melted well, if the chip snaps right back.

Regarding wether to trust the source of the two cd32c00 I used or not is difficult to say. On the one hand the shop does not seem to have any products online since a while, on the other the general given feedback is ok. the precise feedback for that product is not available. • A1989 (820-00850) - 5V@0.23A - shorted usbc cable

dear fellow tech enthusiasts, I would appreciate your help ! I have an 820-00850 here that died on a squeezed/shorted charging cable.

    I found several shorted ldo's on both U3100 and U3200. I replaced them with cd3215c00 ( originally c00Z )

D3301 was shorted, removed without replacement for now. No other visual / obvious findings. ports look good.

    4,86V / 0,23A on usbc meter and ppbus 12.28V, ppdcin_g3h 5V and pp3v3_g3h 3.3V - all ports/orientation. Nothing obvious on a thermal picture, only t2 warms up to 35Celsius.

    1V1 LDO missing on u31/32...

  • A1706 - no brain after display replacement

A friend replaced the display on that machine and since then it is dead. He can not remember any mistake.

cpu vcore present. no adaptive voltage. stable 1.8V I think. no chime, no mouse light, no brain. No short on pin 1 J8500 / EDP_INT_AUX_N

All major voltages present and stable except P5VUSBC / PP5V_S4_T_USBC. I do not know what is for really. Can it be normal ?

No difference on external display with internal disconnected.

What way should I go ?

    best regards

  • A1707 - sudden reset only on charger under load

This 15" Touchbar runs fine on battery but resets/shuts down on charger just a few moments after beeing under load. Usually reboots on his own after a few seconds. No panic/crash reports.

Anybody knows that issue ? Feels like CPU mosfets, no ?

When it happens it will not sucessfully boot again as long the charger is plugged.

It charges fine. Battery health is good. If you just watch a movie or so it will not crash.

When this happens the board drops amperage draw completely for a few seconds and then starts drawing again.

  • Re: 820-01700 5v 0.25 a

ah I was too fast. You wre for sure speaking about the nand and not the t2. ssd chips must come from donor board because of eSPI ?

I mean this board should be saved anyways but my first concern is data recovery here.

Every 20 seconds ppbus drops from 12.58V to 12.28V.

Please someone guide me on how to proceed with this one. thank you so much...

  • Re: 820-01700 5v 0.25 a

Hey piernov. Thanks for beeing here ! Generally: t2 must come from identical Board ?

Now, I don’t think that the t2 is dead:

Today I picked up the housing with battery and after I installed the logicboard I suddenly had 0.07A @ 19v input on all ports.
I just connected fans, audio, power button and touch bar connections, not the battery yet ! So I was wondering if any of the flex connected where crucial to negotiate 20v an disconnected one after another. But still, logicboard in the housing, nothing connected and 19V....

  • Re: 820-01700 5v 0.25 a

Ultrasonic cleaning --> still 0.25A@5V on three ports, still 0.01A@5v and so no PPDCIN_XA_G3H_F output on primary port.

The power sequence says "H9M LOAD SECURE ROM, SMC BATTERY TRAP" right before creation of PMU_VDDMAIN_EN. I can get the battery today but wonder if this makes sense as long I have this amperage draw on three an no amps on primary port.

U9580, R5620, C9580, C9581, C9583, C9584 and C9574 were removed in my first test now they are back but no change. I removed them because the area looked hit and after...

  • 820-01700 5v 0.25 a

Hello everybody, I am a little desperate understanding this t2 board. Somebody worked on it before ( u3100) I guess reflowed. Liquid damage hit mainly the right wing but also u7800 area. L7811 looked horrible.

First thing I did was carving out a short on ppbus ssd0. Not so much maybe 2 three layers deep "just" in the extent of pad 1 of c9573.

I do not have the battery here.
On all ports except on the master u3100 (XA= 0.01A and no pbus) I get 5v going up in 2 steps within 2 seconds to 0.24A and stays stable there. The only thing I notice gets warm...

  • Re: MacBook 12" 820-00244 famous SSD issue

heating does not really help it. the funny thing is that the person that gave tha 12ie to me has all data but wants to use the machine again despite my explanations that the problem will most probably return.

Just wanted to see if anyone had a hint what to check else before taking off the cpu

it might be better with leaded solder but one day in 1 - 4 years the problem may return. It is just a poor thermal design.

  • MBP15.2012 820-3330 not finishing os boot

I have this nice 2012 MacBook Pro from a friend here since a while and I never fixed it. Deactivated dGPU is not an option for him as he relies on an external display.

It either hangs on late boot status bar or reboots (panics) from there. No artifacts, no lines....

If I run it on integrated graphics no problem.

I did not hear from failing 2012 nvidias nor do I know read about any common failure on theese machines.

I think I ran asd efi without results.

Would you replace the gpu or is there any other thing I should check...

  • MacBook 12" 820-00244 famous SSD issue

I have an 2016 12" MacBook here which does not recognise the ssd most of the boots and if does once upon a time it usually does not complete the boot.

I wanted to benefit from your experience:

It is 2016 and not the longish 2015 CPU. I can not clearly see that is warped.

Would you check anything else before attempting a reball / replace of the cpu ?

And, as a less important side question: Could I install an m7 on a board that came with m3 ?

    best regards

  • Re: Spectre x360 dead - Dax31mb1aa0 rev a

    can me marked as solved

with the battery attached it also cycles but after 5 times it charges and posts ! I was just too unpatient thanks all ! In the end it had been just shorted diodes and I took off one controller for nothing haaha. lets see if I manage to reball it without a stencil....

  • Re: Spectre x360 dead - Dax31mb1aa0 rev a

Thank you mon2. Now I have the boardview. I will have time next week to go over that board again.

I never checked voltages on the big coils but their resistance to gnd seemed reasonable.

What I forgot to mention is that the machine did run fine on battery but stopped charging.

If no one with experience on that kind of board has hints, ideas or a suspicioun I will post diode values and voltages in the coming week.

  • Spectre x360 dead - Dax31mb1aa0 rev a

    I've got an 13-ac023dx usb c logicboard Dax31mb1aa0 rev a ( Quanta X31 kbl-u 2016.08.05 )

clean board. both tvs diodes ( D36 & D43 ) were shorted. Removed

no other shorts on first glance. I have the schematic but no boardview.

The four vbus or vin mosfets around the two usbc controllers seem ok. no short among their B G D and also not to GND

    Ports are good I guess.

usbc ampmeter shows 20V and only 0.03a. board is cycling every 3-4 seconds and the led flashes 3 times if I hit the power button

    any ideas...

  • Re: MacBookPro 15" 2015 - Screen off / GMUX Issue ?

yeah, I think so too. 00426 or a alike. Do not want to give up on that one yet. I believe it is something in the muxing circuitry. But can we really rule out the lcd ? It would have further unexpected behaviour is what I was thinking.

The iGPU itself works as perfect as the dedicated, straight integrated or dedicated boot, avoiding switching, showed that) Can we rule out the CPU FDMs ? I thought it would crash in catalina as well, at least in long term test on low usage / low voltage transitions. But all is stable....

  • MacBookPro 15" 2015 - Screen off / GMUX Issue ?

Hello everybody, i could have some help.

I will note down the logic board number later if needed. Am away of the scope now and forgot it. It was the one schematics were never released for and so to substitute by a similar model.

The machine did fall a little less than half a meter. Plain, not on the edge. It looses lcd out on finishing the boot.

2 operating system tested. El Capitan and Catalina. To me it seems to be a gpu switching issue and I have no idea how to go on diagnosing.

On both OS it is avoidable by having an external display connected...
