  • Re: samsung syncmaster 226bw white screen after cap replacement

I scored this Samsung 941BW today off craigslist since I got nothing to do this President's Day holiday.
The monitor can turn on the blue power indicator LED but no video.
Two are bulging but replaced all caps anyway except the big one, no luck and I still have the same problem.
Checked the circuit and found the radial fuse open.

Shorted it with very fine strand of copper wire and now I got all white screen.

Then, I read RTech's comment to double-check ribbon cable...

  • Re: This fuse is called what?!

    Thanks for all the replies.
The monitor had been working for a while now.
I did a McGyver, cracked a 1A 250V glass fuse from my stash, use its filament to close the circuit underneath.

I'm about to re-order caps at Digikey so this reminded me to properly fix this monitor.

  • This fuse is called what?!

This 2A 250V LCD monitor fuse is blown.
How one can properly identify and diffentiate a fast blow to a slow blow fuse?

    Thank you,...

  • Re: Stumpped on a ViewSonic VP930b

@Longbow - I do not know which point my meter would read 400V
@Kaboom - yep, NTE they are. Fresh out of 16v 1000mF so I had to run at Fry's. C7 is Nichicon. All are high temp caps.

The board is now fixed though. Followed Kaboom's advise of checking continuity and bad solder joints on other components.

3x magnifying glass is not cutting it anymore.

    Thank you all!

  • Stumpped on a ViewSonic VP930b

I've repaired two VP930b already but this third one is giving me a doozy.
All three monitors have bad caps. I've replaced all caps except the big CapXon 100mF; 400V.
The third monitor remain no power.
The fuse is not blown but there is no output voltage on CON2 connector though.
The monitor works when I install the other repaired PSU.

I've double checked the solder and now I'm stumpped.

    Any inputs are appreciated.

    Thanks!...

  • Re: Samsung Syncmaster 214T

    Hi Guys,

Memorial weekend is upon us so tinkering with broken monitors would be my way of honoring our fallen heroes. I will bring these monitors back to life!

I am repairing a same Samsung Syncmaster 214T.
Same symptoms of dim display and flickkering.
It has the same set of bulging caps: 820mf 25v and 330mf 25v.
Problem is, I do not have the same parts in stock. Local parts stores are closed.
While ordering it is the "DUH!" thing to do, I would like to ask the forum if I can replace...

  • Re: No power on a Acer AL1916

While prepping the image, I realized that I can view the hi-res image in actual pixels.
    Eureka! I see U406.
The part is in back-order at digikey until mid June. I removed it like the surgeon who took my appendix and voila, I have a working monitor!
I have another AL1916 at work. The boys requesting for dual monitors for their workstation will be happy.

Thanks to all who have contributed to this thread...

I'm contributing by attaching the board, boxed the location of U406.
    I ordered the...

  • Re: No power on a Acer AL1916

    Hi Guys,
I'm working on a similar Acer AL1916 today. Same issue: No Power. LED Indicator does not lit up. Surprised to see bunch of Rubycons here and all caps are looking good. Like from a couple of posts here, replacing (one suggested removing) MAX810M resolved their issue. I wanted to try shorting U406 reset controller but my poor eyes could not locate it on the main board. This thread has good images of the board. Any assistance is appreciated. Thank you.

Alainski here from downtown Los Angeles.
After years of cubicle Service Desk gig, I'm re-kindling the bench techician in me on the side.
Revived 2 mobos, 3 monitors and an XBox 360 in the last 60 days....
Time to visit my friends at the local office machine recycler.

Great forum and lots of helpful folks.
    Thank you,
