• Re: Backlight Rapidly Flashing - 23" Cinema Display

    Thank you for your responses.

Budm - I will get pictures uploaded as soon as I can.

Vinceroger69 - I've seen that thread, which is about troubleshooting the power supply, not the actual display. The power supply I have works just fine on another unit.Re: Backlight Rapidly Flashing - 23" Cinema Display

  • Backlight Rapidly Flashing - 23" Cinema Display

    Hi All,

Haven't posted in years, but happy to see these forums are still active! Anyway, I have a 23" Apple Cinema Display which is exhibiting a weird issue. When connected to a known-good power supply and video source (as tested with its sister display), the unit powers up and displays video, however, the backlight flashes/strobes on and off approximately twice per second. There is a small, audible noise which accompanies this activity.

I consider myself to be competent with displays and TVs, having successfully repaired many of each, this issue is something...

  • Re: by d:sign d:5032m Loud Buzzing, No Picture

Thanks for your reply. It is a loud buzzing like that, but it is higher pitch. Probably still the panel? I took a flashlight to the screen and did not notice anything around the edges.

    Thanks!

  • by d:sign d:5032m Loud Buzzing, No Picture

    Hi all,

I have a by d:sign model d:5032m plasma TV. The unit successfully enters into standby mode, and the power light switches from red to blue when the power button is pressed. However, there is no picture, and a loud buzzing noise comes from the back of the TV. This noise stops when the TV is powered off.

This TV appears to be based off the LG 50x3 set.

Now, I seem to recall previously reading that this might be a failure of the YSUS board. However, it has been 6 months since I've worked on this unit and I cannot find where I read that now.

  • Re: Panasonic TC-P42C2 SOS10 (10 Blinks)

I concluded the SN board last time I worked on the unit by following a previous thread on another site with the same symptoms as my TV. The SOS changed to I believe 6 or 7 blinks, as the thread stated it should. I've since lost the link to that post.

I haven't much component-level testing yet; that's the area where I need some help.

Maybe I should rephrase, as well. I know how to use a multimeter, but I'm not too familiar with which components to test, or how to properly test them. If I could get a little more...

  • Panasonic TC-P42C2 SOS10 (10 Blinks)

    Hi all

It's been a while since I've last posted. Anyway, long story short, I've got my hands on 4 plasmas 2 LCDs (they were too cheap to pass up!). One of which is a Panasonic Viera, 42", TC-P42C2. Great shape, except it is reporting SOS10, or 10 blinks of the red power light.

I've gone through some research online and testing, although it was a couple of months ago. I've isolated the SN board as the faulty board. However, as I am good with a multimeter and proficient with a soldering iron, I'd like to try to diagnose the SN board at a component level before...

  • Re: Insignia NS-LCD32 Problems

Alright, well the recap is finished. Still have the whining noise in the power supply, and still have the same lines on the display. I'm thinking it MUST be something with the TCON now?! =\

  • Re: capacitor with no esr value

I too have been fighting with an Insignia 32" - I am waiting on my replacement caps to arrive in the mail - what was the location of the 47uf 50v cap, if you don't have the set put back together now?

  • Re: Insignia NS-LCD32 Problems

Yes, they are JH caps. I have ordered replacements for all 12 caps on the board, except the big one. Had to mix Panasonic and Nichicon to avoid backorder. We'll see how it turns out.

Alright. Maybe the squealing noise the power supply makes is another indication? If you think I should try recapping the power supply, I am comfortable with that.

  • Re: Insignia NS-LCD32 Problems

Powering on the TV with the panel disconnected from the Tcon gives a uniform black screen - so it appears that the panel is good. Would removing the LVDS cable from the Tcon tell me anything? I would expect the same black screen. If the cable was partially inserted, I would expect distortion. Sound correct?

I read something about this in another thread.

  • Re: Insignia NS-LCD32 Problems

Well I tested the voltages on the power supply, with the unit ON. Everything was withing about half a volt of the labeled value. I attached new pictures of the power supply.

I'm a little stumped at this point. Any ideas about the noises the PS makes, as described above?...

  • Re: Insignia NS-LCD32 Problems

Thanks for your reply. In the thread linked in my original thread, post #3 has a picture of the PSU attached. I'm on a mobile phone right now, so I will not be able to re-upload the picture for a while.

Would a bad TCon prevent sound from being produced?

  • Insignia NS-LCD32 Problems

    Hi all,

Recently I've picked back up on my Insignia 32" LCD. This is the second thread about the TV, as I am still stumped. Original thread:https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=16763&highlight=insignia&page=2

Here's the short version: When you plug in the TV, you can hear a faint whine from the power supply. When you turn the TV on, the high pitched sound becomes louder. The LCD displays colored lines that "move" as you press buttons (channel, vol, etc). No sound, no matter how many vol up presses.

    As stated...

  • Plasma TV chip on screen

    Hello all,

I just picked up a 50" plasma for a good price (I hope!). However, when moving it or something, there is now a small chip on the screen. The glass itself is okay, but it looks like there is a plastic coating (polarization?) that is slightly chipped off. Can this be easily fixed? Would something like the Novus TV scratch remover (listed on eBay) work? Or will it not be noticeable when the TV is on?

Also, when I first plugged the TV in, it made a popping noise from the back , so I may be back to ask for more help.

    Thanks in advance...

  • Re: Insignia NS-LCD32 black screen, varying colored vertical lines

No luck with the input buttons - the only buttons on the side of the TV are Chan ^/v, Vol >/<, Input, Menu, and Power.

Further, I removed the metal shields from the logic board - there are about 16 "Chang" capacitors and a few "JH" caps as well. None look visibly damaged. Looked for components marked with an "F" or that seemed like a fuse, but found none. I can try to post some pictures soon... Are Chang or JH caps known for failure?

  • Re: Insignia NS-LCD32 black screen, varying colored vertical lines

Well, I found the user manual online, and this happens to be one of those TVs which uses an input menu vs. just switching inputs every time you press the button. However, not having a picture makes it difficult to determine what input to select.

The TV also has AV out (composite), so I attempted to connect this to my main Vizio LCD. Upon turning on the Insignia unit, the Vizio shows snow on its AV input for about one second, then goes back to the "No Signal." Pressing Input or Menu on the Insignia...

  • Re: Insignia NS-LCD32 black screen, varying colored vertical lines

Alright, I will look into that. The Tcon is covered by a metal shield, which "hooks" into the frame. From the looks of it, I will need to disassemble the entire frame to get that off.

One thing I just thought of - I haven't tried hooking up anything to the composite video input to check for sound. I think I will try that as well, because a Tcon problem wouldn't affect audio, correct?

  • Re: Insignia NS-LCD32 black screen, varying colored vertical lines

Spent some time with the DMM and got acquainted; the 5V, 9V, 12V, and 24V lines are all +/- .5V of their rated voltage. I guess now is the time to start swapping boards, unless someone has another suggestion?

  • Re: Insignia NS-LCD32 black screen, varying colored vertical lines

Okay i purchased a DMM and attempted to test the voltages on the power supply. The multimeter came with no instructions or explanations what so ever, and although I have used one before, I haven't used anything with this many functions.

With the tv powered off, there were no significant voltages. I got readings of like, .4.

With the TV powered ON, i touched one probe to a GND point, and the TV instantly shut off. So, apparently I am doing something wrong =\. I can post some pictures in...
