Re: SPDIF Coaxial Output & Toslink Input Clarification
Gotcha, I have seen plenty of those but I'm trying to avoid buying the extra equipment if possible. I appreciate the input, stay safe out there!

SPDIF Coaxial Output & Toslink Input Clarification
Hey all hope everyone is staying safe out there! I have a quick question regarding SPDIF cable input/output connectors & audio quality. Is there such a thing as a digital cable with one end being digital optical (Toslink) and the other end being digital coaxial? The reason I ask is because my PC motherboard has both coaxial and optical outputs but my speaker system only has a digital optical input which is what I'm using at the moment (aware toslink max audio quality is up to 96Khz). My motherboard can provide audio up to 192Khz which is what I would like to achieve for maximum audio quality...

Re: SSI_400_14A01 Rev0.1 Backlight Inverter, Original or Updated Board?
Between 001-003. By what I've read online, 0.4v-0.9v tests as a good FET.
Ahh I see! I'm sure thats most likely the case because on the underside of the board, there are noticeable brown blemishes (burn marks) directly under the bad MOSFETS. The other side has no marks at all. As for the components on the board, I can change them but I'll just save myself the headache and purchase a new one on ebay for $24.99 and sell the broken one. The newer board looks to be...

Re: SSI_400_14A01 Rev0.1 Backlight Inverter, Original or Updated Board?
Looks like you beat me to the punch with the MOSFET numbers.
Ok so after doing some more learning and testing, I'm about 90% sure I tested the MOSFETS correctly this time. The culprit is (as I initially suspected), bad MOSFETS! I was however wrong about which ones were blown; All 6 FETS to the right of the T-con connector showed zero readings and the ones to the left, (8) tested fine but some were somewhat on the low side so does that indicate that they're about to?...

Re: SSI_400_14A01 Rev0.1 Backlight Inverter, Original or Updated Board?
I watched the video & to be honest its a little more complicated than it seems but I'm staring to catch on slowly but surely.
Will do after work, its currently 6:30A.M. here in Arizona.
OK, I'll post the readings & some pictures later today.
Thanks again guys!...

Re: SSI_400_14A01 Rev0.1 Backlight Inverter, Original or Updated Board?
I was just just going off of what I visually saw on the board but testing it with the multimeter pinpointed the problem.
Ok, gotcha!
Alright so here are the results from testing both fuses & all 14 MOSFETS:
Fuses - "000" reading on both.
MOSFETS to the right of the connectors (6 total) - Near "000" reading on all 8 pins of each MOSFET.
MOSFETS to...

Gotcha, I see what you mean. It looks like I'll be doing some extensive diagnosing later today to further pinpoint the cause of the problem. I'll post my findings as soon as I do using the picture as a reference. Thanks cheeky 2!...

Re: SSI_400_14A01 Rev0.1 Backlight Inverter, Original or Updated Board?
Yeah that appears to be the case with the old Rev0.1 boards.
I think so too since the updated board has the same 14 pins as the original but I'm waiting for the seller to confirm this. The board you linked looks like a more recent (not updated) version of the older 14A01 which by looking at it should fit my friend's dynex as well. If the updated board doesn't fit, I'll most likely purchase that one instead.
Thanks again NMS!...

Re: SSI_400_14A01 Rev0.1 Backlight Inverter, Original or Updated Board?
Its hard to see the sticker numbers on the sellers images so I went ahead and messaged him. That board in particular that looks different is the one I'm seeking info on in this thread. Its labeled as an "upgrade" to the original 14A01 REV0.1 board which looks exactly the same, screw holes and all except for the electronics on the board are obviously different. The reason I'm sure it will work is because I searched part no. LJ97-02098E which is one of the part...

Re: SSI_400_14A01 Rev0.1 Backlight Inverter, Original or Updated Board?
It did cross my mind to purchase a repair kit for the board but it looks like alot of intricate work; I mean I'm decent at soldering but if I can take an easier route then why not.
I found this one which I'm 99.9% sure will fit but it looks like the seller didn't bother to find what other boards & t.v.'s it will fit: https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Inverter-Board-to-replace-SSI-400-14A01-REV0-1-L40R1-TLM40V68PK/274396043465?hash=item3fe34758c9:g:4XMAAOSwqgRZuNpl...

****EDIT******
I apologize but I had a brain fart with the previous post, the model number for the t.v. is wrong. The correct model number is: DX-40L150A11.

Re: SSI_400_14A01 Rev0.1 Backlight Inverter, Original or Updated Board?
In response to dick_barton's question, I connected my game console to the t.v. and discovered it does have sound. I posted a couple of pictures of the board below but be warned, the quality of my phone's camera is trash but you can see the brown blemishes on the solder joints on the transformers as well as the back of the board.
The t.v. model no. is: DX-40L261A12 by Dynex.
I do have a multimeter actually, what exactly should I test on the board? I'll definitely...

Re: SSI_400_14A01 Rev0.1 Backlight Inverter, Original or Updated Board?
I see, I had no idea that one tube failing can cause the black screen issue so thanks for pointing that out. As for the sound, I don't have anything hooked up to it like an antenna or anything like that; what I'll try later is to hook up an external source such as my phone to the t.v. and see if I can hear music through the speakers. I'll post the result as well as some pictures of the board once I do. In reference to the backlights flashing briefly, I saw nothing and I even checked with the...

Re: SSI_400_14A01 Rev0.1 Backlight Inverter, Original or Updated Board?
To be honest, I've been going off of youtube videos & online research only. I did manage to pull the board and take a look at it and there were what appear to be burn marks on both sides of the board; the bottom has them (brown blemishes) right under the transformers. Various sources stated that you can check if its the inverter by shining a bright light close to the screen in a dark room and if you are still able to see somewhat of an image, its most likely the inverter; I did try out this...

SSI_400_14A01 Rev0.1 Backlight Inverter, Original or Updated Board?
Hey everyone,
A friend of mine's 40" LCD T.V. needs replacement of the backlight inverter which has the infamous black screen no sound issue. I know ebay has the original units (SSI_400_14A01 Rev0.1) available for purchase but before I do, I was wondering if it would be better to purchase the updated version of the board which is basically the same part no. but instead 'Rev0.2'? I've attached a couple of pictures below of the original (left) and the newer board (right) for comparison. Thanks in advance....

Re: New Members - please post your introductions here
Hey everyone,
My name is Ruben and me and electronics go wayyy back to when I was a kid. I would take apart anything I could get my hands on just to see how it worked but then forget how to put it back together (or leave parts out)!
