• Re: Hanns-G HG281D 28" TFT - Multiple Problems

I always buy carefully when it comes to broken monitors. I have bought and fixed and sold dozens of monitors and I have only been shafted twice. One of those I didn't even pay for. You are right jet, and I would not recommend for anyone to so this without the proper experience and tools to handle the problems that may come up. I do this because I enjoy it, although it does bring some income. Not much, just some to fill in. This hobby pays me. If only my other, more expensive hobby did too...

I bought another hg281d and again replaced the caps on the logic board. It fixed it. The monitor had different symptoms though. This one wouldn't stay synced up. It would show an image through the hdmi port for a sec then go black with the backlight on and the osd say there is no signal. Then vga port acted different. Displayed image fine for a duplicate display, but wouldn't display at all for only disp or extended display. This one was made in 2009, the other was made in 2007. The symptoms were different, boards were different...

In my experience a white screen appears when I forget to connect the signal cable. It connects the logic board to the lcd board. If it happened after opening the device it is more likely. Check those connections again. Report back.

I replaced all of the caps on the logic board. So... re-solder all of the lytic caps on the logic board and see what happens. Be sure to remove as much of the old solder and replace it with fresh solder.

I might be wrong so don't be too disappointed when it doesn't work.

• Re: Hanns-G HG281D, LCD Monitor no power

I need to change some of that info.

I looked a little more and I need to change my response to reduce possible confusion. I think that I found the cable side: FI-X30HL-KITASSY-300M
Also the Sharp that I am working on has the same connector. No number. You could easily get an answer from Mouser which connector you need from that cable. Manufacturer is JAE. It's called a LVDS cable and you need a 30 pin latched receptacle.

Also found this one, but there is no detailed data sheet or picture. This is a 30...

Soldering that connector won't be very difficult with a standard iron and a few tips. If you have a little bit of experience soldering check out this tutorial at sparkfun:

http://www.sparkfun.com/tutorials

Click on the 'surface mount soldering tutorials' section and read through them. They have helped me with my SMT practices.

I bet Mouser would have that connector. I glanced through their catalog and found a 'FI-R flex' connector that looks similar. It comes in a 31 pin package (that is...

I read through this thread to fix a broken HG281D I bought. I have fixed many others before but have invested much more time into this one. I finally consented to order the caps for the logic board as stevekasian did. Thanks btw. It fixed it. Mine would power on for about 30 seconds then shut off with only the power led 'on'. It also had shimmering in the white of the image. All of that is gone now. Before that, I checked the entire PWB for a problem. I did find 3 bad caps on the power board. C111, C603, C707. Not sure if those...
