  • Re: Polkaudio DSW PRO 500 not switching on solved

After, checking and doublechecking and retracing my steps / I realized that the status led would turn red / then green / then back to red in about a second after turning on the unit. I had no power at 12V or 5V because the board was going into protection mode. It seems that the chip (STA516B) on the amplifier board has failed (see pic). From what I can tell / it appears to be a direct short. I'm not sure if this is repairable or not (far too small for me to be able to attempt).

I guess I'll be looking for a new amplifier...

I was able to contact someone at Polk and I got this schematic. It is for a PSW660 / but looks like it is the same power supply as the 550 and 440 as well....

Thank you for getting back to me. Here are the two best pics I could get. There are two large foam pieces attached to the bottom of the board that I will try to remove if I have too - I just didn't want to take a chance of making my issue worse unless I had to take that chance....

Well, I might have more issues than I originally thought. I also do not have any power out of the 36v, 48v, or 53v output. I checked the large capacitors (3300uF 63V) c25 and whatever is right next to that one (the glue is in the way) and they have no voltage when the power supply is powered on. I am trying to upload some pics, if they will help. If anyone has schematics of this board ,or a similar one (the 500 or 550 board seem very similar) I would greatly appreciate it.

    Thank you,

    - New guy...

    Hello all,

I am new to this forum, but seem to be having the same/similar issue with my Polk DSW 660wi. When I turn on the amp, the speaker thumps 4 times and then I get nothing. I checked and found that I have no 5v or 12v on the power supply board. I was going to replace the "C12 220uf/10v(photo 5)" but I checked it for power (with a simple volt meter) and it had 5v. Do you think I should just go ahead and change it anyways?? By the way, my board has no burnt spots or any diodes that appear to be damaged...
