  • Re: Toshiba Satellite C655 won't run off AC. Need schem.

Sorry but this is why I charge a minimum for a diagnostics fee that is paid up front. With the ever increasing amount of shoddy motherboards being produced you just about have to. if the customer elects to have it repaired then you can discount the diagnostic fee from the total cost if you like.

If they just decide to say they just want it back then so be it but you should be compensated for your time....

  • Re: DCLCD DCL9A 19" LCD screen touchy when warm

I know this post was from a long time ago, however I happen to be working on one at the moment. I did notice that the OP made no mention of checking the caps on the inverter board, only resoldering joints. This is the 3rd one I have had in here now that had a problem with the caps on the inverter board, 2 had a flashing power light and one was a steady light, however the 470uF caps on the inverter board turned out to be the issue with all 3 units.......odd, yes I know but this is life in the world of electronics.

Scenic, that's why I said "usually"......lol. thailemon you stated that the power button does not work, you may be solving your issue right there, when power buttons fail they can become erratic. Sometimes they may fix themselves in an open circuit or in a closed circuit. I will look through my pile of motherboards and see if I happen to have one that I can check out for you and tell you what to look for.

Most of those fell under the same category as the Xbox 360's, poor choice of design. The video chips tend to overheat and pull away from the PCB or just overheat and die. Usually on laptops it's the 6100 series of GPU's

  • Re: LCD Monitor buying help....

    1. It's all in the design, as you can see the Samsung 21.5 is 45W and the AOC 21.5 is still coming in at 22W

    2. Haven't had enough LED screens to really give you a complete answer.

    3. From what I have seen every manufacturer has some problems with different production runs, it is usually the quality of the components that seals the deal. Some manufacturers use different vendors for the same parts.

    4. None of the above, my personal preference is to buy a used one that someone thinks is junk, then put about...

  • Re: ESR meter - recommendations?

One of the best places I have found for ESR testers is on the Radio forums, we just picked up a digital and an analog this week for about $35, but everyone has their favorite places to hunt for test equipment, just throwing it out there.
