Re: Alternating current & neutral wire
The white wire is the GROUNDED wire, the bare copper wire is the GROUNDING wire. They both connect to the neutral buss in the service box. Power does not come from the ground. If you grab the white wire after a load and your body provides sufficient earth ground, you are DEAD.
Three wires come into the service box: black 115V, red 115V, (each connecting to a separate buss) and the bare grounded wire. Every other circuit breaker on one side of the service box connects to the opposite hot (115V) buss. A 220V breaker occupies...

Re: Play streaming audio on home stereo
Now for some more dumb questions from a computer illiterate. I don't see s/pdif connections on the rear of my new Dell Dimension E-310. Do I need a better sound card?

Re: Play streaming audio on home stereo
15ft as the crow flys. 35ft to route cable around the room.
Now that I looked op the definition of s/pdif I knew I had the inputs, duh..Last edited by Lonnie; 01-09-2007, 09:10 AM.

Re: Play streaming audio on home stereo
It's a Harman/Kardon AVR 500, I'll have to dig out the manual.

Re: Play streaming audio on home stereo
If the PC speaker connection was line voltage I could just use RCA cable into an Aux connection. If it's less I'll need a preamp, which most newer receivers don't have. This would be the simplest and least expensive solution.

Anyone doing this? What hardware are you using? I was looking at the wireless stuff from Radio Shack. Just wondering what your experiences were.
BTW, what is the voltage at the PC speaker connection?

Sansui 5000a blows right channel fuse
Hi all, been lurking here for a while and decided to make a first post. I've always liked tinkering with electronics including a very large collection of old radios I have assembled over the years although I never got very good at fixing them I still enjoy it. Anyway to my question, I picked this receiver up (for free) and was under the impression that it worked, I was just going to replace all the blown bulbs and jam out some vintage Neil Young on this great vintage receiver, well guess what, it no workie. The right channel fuse blows immediately when switching on the power, even with no speaker...
