• Re: TCL 43" Model 43S525

Yes, I tell everyone the same. Most TV repairs you see on youtube are backlight issues.

This TV went to my nephew and the first thing he said was that he hates a bright TV so he turn backlight/brightness down low.

neilc6, I watched some videos and did the tape cutoff method and narrowed it down to one clock signal line. Once I taped off just that one line (like doing micro-surgery), the TV looks perfect.
Thanks a million. I never would have known about that method....

I'll post pictures of the screen in the next day or two and also try the crazy tape cutoff method. Learned a lot watching those videos in the link you sent. Thanks.

• Re: TCL 43" Model 43S525

I did try that.
If I disconnect left side cable (from T-Con to driver board), I get a good picture on right side of screen.

If I connect only the right side, I get nothing on any part of the screen, just backlights.

Does this mean bad panel or something on the driver board?

TCL 43" Model 43S525

Was given this new TV that has backlight but no picture.

- When both T-Con ribbon cables that run down to the driver boards are
connected, I get no picture - just backlight.

- When I remove the left-side ribbon (facing back of TV), no picture.
- When I leave the left-side connected and remove the right-side ribbon cable, I get a good image on the right-side of the screen. Seems to be exactly half the screen.

- I've swapped ribbon cables and there's no change so I know the ribbon are good. I've inspected the T-Con and driver board...

• Re: TCL 55S401 Backlights, no image, responds to buttons

Well, 2-years later and it looks like TCL TV's still have this issue. I have TCL 43S525 with exact same symptoms. (Manufactured June 2020)
Backlight Ok, seems to boot up and audible dings when pressing buttons. But no picture.
Just starting troubleshooting so nothing to add yet.

• Re: Eeprom dump thread!

I don't know that it's super common but I just replaced the eeprom in an Insignia TV that would only power on about 1 out of 10 times.
Replaced ONLY the eeprom ($10) and now the TV never fails to power up!...

The replacement eeprom fixed the TV!
Thanks very much for suggesting that.

• Re: Insignia LED TV - Won't turn on

Spraying (freezing) the eprom didn't work but I did notice that the Stndby LED went ON, OFF and then back ON for a few seconds. It went off again and TV would not turn on.

Since something different happened, I decided to put board in the freezer for a few minutes.
This time, the SB LED stayed on and the TV powered up Ok and I was able to navigate the menus, etc.

I let it run for 10-min. and then powered off.
SB LED went out and nothing would work after that.
Froze board again (a little...

• Re: Insignia LED TV - Won't turn on

Stndby LED turns off by itself in a second or less.
Nothing happens when I press power button. I've used bright flashlight to check for image but there is nothing so I don't believe I have a picture.

Is it possible to get a new eeprom or should I cut my losses and just get a replacement board?

I think I've identified the eeprom as shown in attached pic.
The chip is labeled 25Q32BSIG and appears to be a reprogrammable chip....

• Insignia LED TV - Won't turn on

I am trying to repair a single-board LED Insignia TV.
Model NS-39D220NA16

When plugged-in, the red standby LED lights for about 1-second and then goes out. It will not come back on until unit is unplugged and then plugged back in.
Rinse and repeat.

I have no schematics and the board is not marked very well.
On the underside of the board, I did find a test point for 1.15v Standby and that reads 1.17v.
There is also a 5v Standby and that does read 5v.

I have tested all diodes and they appear Ok as do the transistors that I...
