Re: Software to analyze Video RAM faults on graphics cards?
Someone made a tool to disable bad video memory. Have not tested it yet. Looks like there is no source code.

Re: Help with Intel AMT /ME
For that you would need to ask in motherboard firmware modding communities like these:

Re: Software to analyze Video RAM faults on graphics cards?
Okay, time to wake up the sleeping elephant. For about a year now there is a fair amount of rumors that various people found out how to disable specific memory banks or channels on Nvidia cards. This would allow for useless artifacting cards to be brought back to life at the expense of losing some performance.

Re: UPNP, "Standards" and hardware that implements it
I doubt that's how it works on xbox, it's certainly not how it works on most PC games. On PC, usually only the server needs to allow incoming connections, then you can try to connect and after the server accepts your connection, there is constant exchange of data between you and the server, so there's no need to re-initiate the connection every time someone fires a bullet. I think most games use UDP packets for things like shooting and moving around, because there is no point in resending packets if they...Last edited by ribcage; 01-15-2023, 04:05 AM.

Re: UPNP, "Standards" and hardware that implements it
I'm not good at networking but this whole automatic port forwarding thing is problematic as far as I know. I had one recent TP-Link router which was extremely glitchy with it's upnp. The most popular open source home router firmware, OpenWRT, doesn't have UPNP at all, as far as I know, it's possible to install it, but the guide is buried somewhere in their documentation and they kind of tell people not to use it. The idea is that a malicious program could go ahead and open a port to the outside world, or a poorly written...

Re: Topcat's Ultimate Pentium 4 Retro Gamer!
That's an interesting PC for sure. Am I wrong or is the 6800 Ultra the fastest native AGP card out there, as in without a PCI-E bridge chip? I have never seen a detachable VRM module before. How badly is the motherboard deformed from that Intel's CPU cooler with the two levers?
I have no idea how you pull out those fans from the bearing, that would be interesting to learn. These old P4s can still make a very powerful server, the only issue might be lack of SATA ports, and PCI SATA cards aren't that good from what I've seen....

Re: Palit GTX 680 2GB - Failure
What do you mean exactly by "fans went bonkers"?

Re: new apple studio display uses capxon caps
They are definitely not superior, and over-engineering is a bad thing. Who the hell puts fans in a monitor? That's completely retarded. Might as well get a CRT if you like noises coming from your monitor.

Re: socket 775 forever... no, no, no...
I have Asus P5L 1394 without onboard graphics and the Intel 945 Northbridge gets too hot to touch even on idle, stock Intel CPU cooler pushes some air through the northbridge's heatsink, but if you have a cooler that does not, then the northbridge is totally overheating.

Re: UPS issue
I guess you're right, just gonna have to get better batteries.
eccerr0r, I kind of assumed I'm only getting inverter output when the power is out. There's a loud click when the UPS switches to battery and back, probably a mechanical relay. And when it does, the 50 Hz hum becomes much louder. It's a modified sine as far as I know. I thought the type of UPS that always produces AC is called Online UPS.

UPS issue
A couple of years ago I got an UPS rated 1000VA 600W, with two 12V 7Ah SLA batteries in series. It ran 24/7 up until recently with a load of about 70 W. When it was new it could hold my setup for an hour or so. Not so long ago a power outage occurred and the UPS hardly lasted a few seconds. The UPS has only ever seen a handful of outages in it's life, and before this one, there probably weren't any for many months. So initially I thought the batteries must be dead, although I've read they typically last 3-5 years, so it's a little strange. I thought perhaps the batteries being at a voltage of...

Re: EVGA 560ti GPU Artifacting
Don't take my words for it, but according to how most people map it, your faulty chips should be the two ones right below the two silver/blue capacitors. Almost every day on the internet you see new cases of these Fermi based graphics cards developing artifacts. Not so long ago my GTX 580 developed artifacts too, it had hynix memory as well. I have another GTX 580 with Samsung memory, that one is still fine. Would be great if you upload a picture of how those artifacts look. Does your PC crash and restart when you try to boot into Windows normally...

Re: Was there a good Chhsi capacitor era, or are they all rubbish?
Recently I replaced three Chhsi 560uF 25V, WG(M), -40 +105 'C, 9846 (46th week of 1998) on an IBM PC 300PL Slot 1 motherboard. Visually they were fine but I replaced them because I've seen multiple pictures of them failed on someone else's PCs, however in all those pictures they were dated 9936 instead. It didn't solve any problems for me, so they were not bad caps. I haven't tested them in any way after removing them, though. If your mobo works fine, I would refrain for now.Last edited by ribcage; 10-05-2021, 01:11 AM.

Re: Ibm 300pl
I replaced them but nothing changed. Although I don't have any equipment to test them. I guess Chhsi were subject to the capacitor plague in 1999.
I think the issue was the power supply I initially used, some kind of Hero Ichi brand. It probably damaged one of the two video ram chips soldered on the motherboard. I found a very similar AGP card and it works fine but I still want to fix the on board graphics. The artifacts are always the same, garbled BIOS, weird lines everywhere in Windows. Also while in BIOS, the screen seems to be "rolling"...

Ibm 300pl
Hey, I found this old IBM PC 300PL. It has intermittent problems when running, I would like to know what you think about these three Chhsi caps? I'm attaching a picture, and sorry for the abysmal quality.
They say:
560uF 25V, WG(M), -40 +105 'C, 9846 (I assume 46th week of 1998)
I found two separate pictures on the internet of these three caps ruptured on this exact board. Except in both pictures they say 9936. And mine look intact.
But I had unpredictable problems. Sometimes it boots, other times it doesn't. The very first time I started the...
