Re: Which nVidia mobo chipsets are bad?
I checked the reset pins and they're not shorted
I guess it's garbage
Should I remove the caps I soldered?
Oh, and the codes aren't changing...

Re: Which nVidia mobo chipsets are bad?
Hi,
How do you find it? Visually inspecting the mobo? Needle in a haystack...
I'll try and find it... Would brushing it work?
The thing is...it was having the same symptoms before replacing the caps...

So, recycle, right?
Do I salvage the capacitors I just soldered on it? Anyone wants them

Re: Which nVidia mobo chipsets are bad?
Hello,
All the caps were replaced, however, the motherboard refuses to boot
I have a diagnostic card and I checked the code in the booklet. The code is FF which means: Flash ROM programming was successful. Next restarting the system BIOS.
What does it really mean?
Also there's a LED that's always on, the RESET LED, in which case the booklet says: When in reset period, this lamp display. If it is lit all the time, check the following:make sure that the reset pin is plugged properly, or the reset...

Re: Which nVidia mobo chipsets are bad?
Mine are FJ, so from the "approved" list...Whew, that's a relief...
I'm waiting for the other ones, next to the chipset, to start the re-capping job.
Fingers crossed

So, are Panasonic good?
I would hate it if they weren't

@Scenic
That's weird...there are a lot of caps on the same mobo that are made by Philips, and there was a comment that said they are reliable... What gives?
Should I order Rubycons or should I give it a try...

@ mockingbird
I just received part of the caps for this repair, the ones around the cpu and VR.
I bought them off ebay and they are Philips, 10mm. I chose them because they were the cheapest and you know, in case the mobo has another defect I did not want to lose to much $.
I read that you wanted to buy Philips caps off Newark...Why don't you try ebay? I admit, it takes waaaay longer to get them, but...I think shipping was free for me.
Just my 50 cents!

Re: Which nVidia mobo chipsets are bad?
Hi,
Thanks for the reply
Yeah, I imagined that much... I am Canadian, so I am wondering what my options are here... I think Jig-a-loo is one, the second being the usual lubricating oil (like the one used to lubricate sewing machines).
What do you think?
Thanks again!...

Re: Which nVidia mobo chipsets are bad?
Hi mockingbird,
Thanks for the reply (actually thanks to everybody that replied to my post...
There's a place between the VR and the CPU where it looks like there's 1 missing capacitor... I remember reading somewhere (just brew it was the poster, I think) that it would not hurt putting a cap there too...
What do you think?
Is the website you suggested good (i'm referring actually to shipping; oh, btw, I'm Canadian)? I usually buy from ebay.
Thanks in advance!Re: Which nVidia mobo chipsets...

Now, the caps are as follows:
1 - KZG 1500uf, 6.3V, the red rectangle
2 - KZG 1000uf, 16V, the blue rectangle
3 - looks like KZG too, 100uf, 16v, the green rectangles
4 - no clue about the manufacturer, 820uf, 8.3V, the yellow rectangles
5 - no clue about the manufacturer, looks like #4, but different specs, like #1, 1500uf, 6.3V, the purple rectangle....

Re: Which nVidia mobo chipsets are bad?
@mockingbird
Hi,
I'm about to do the same with an identical board. I am pretty sure that that's the problem with my board too.
Could you send me a pic with the locations of the caps that you changed (and if possible with the specs of the caps)?
Thanks in advance!...
