Re: Convert AV Receiver to Pre-amp
Thank you, petehall347
It appears to work. I have an amplifier powered by a separate supply with a line in from the 12 pin connector on the DAC/digital board of the Denon AVR-E300 amplifier. The line out from the small chip amp is connected to a passive bookshelf speaker. Everything seems to sound ok, the Denon AVR does not shut down with an error, and I can control the playback volume through the AVR controls.
I can also disconnect the ribbon header from the amplifier board without causing a receiver error/shut down....

In that case it looks like it might be these four 50V 2.2uf capacitors on the amplifier....

Re: Convert AV Receiver to Pre-amp
Yes, the active speakers contain amplifiers. Those amplifiers have capacitors. Specifically, 35V 330uf capacitors.
If I can use the socket on the digital board to extract a line level signal -- totally bypassing the amplifier board -- then send that directly to my active speakers then we're back to having an easy solution again....

Re: Convert AV Receiver to Pre-amp
Ok, now I need to figure out how to add coupling capacitors to the 12 pin connector from the digital board.
It looks like the capacitors are 100v/10uf and 63v/100uf. Also, 50V/220uf and 100V/10uf.
I have no idea which ones I'd use to create pre-outs. Have to keep digging to see what I can find....

Re: Convert AV Receiver to Pre-amp
There aren't any pre-outs on the rear panel of the Denon AVR-E300. The Denon AVR-X1000 that uses the same amplifier board is the model with the pre-outs on the back.

What type of connector is this?
Hi, I have a Denon AVR E300 receiver amplifier. This receiver does not expose pre-outs on the back of the case. I need to use pre-outs to deliver a line level from the receiver to active speakers.
I believe these white connectors on the amplifier board might be pre-out sockets. Denon did not connect these on my lower grade model. The higher grade of receiver using the same amplifier board exposes pre-outs on the back.
The pins in the white socket are 2.54mm pitch. But the shape of the white plastic confuses me. What is the name of the connector I need to google...

Re: Convert AV Receiver to Pre-amp
Great. Thanks for the help. I'd prefer to use the white pre-outs sockets on the main amplifier board. I didn't know that's what they were when I first started looking at the boards.

Re: Convert AV Receiver to Pre-amp
Oh, and I discovered information that might be helpful. The service manual for the Denon AVR-E300 is the same as the X1000 and X1010. The X1000 and X1010 expose pre-outs on the back. That makes me wonder if the white sockets on the amplifier (main) board are pre-outs but aren't connected on my lower priced E300 model. Maybe I could just use the plugs....

Re: Convert AV Receiver to Pre-amp
There are other schematics for the SMPS, HDMI, MCU, etc but I don't know if those are relevant or helpful.

Do these images show where the capacitor is located on the boards, or should I look for a wiring diagram?...

Convert AV Receiver to Pre-amp
Hello, I would like to convert my powered Denon AVR-E300 to a pre-amp (line level source) by eliminating the power amplifiers.
Reason: I use active speakers that are already amplified. I don't want to run an amplified signal into my active speakers.
I know. But the cost of buying an AVR with pre-outs is wildly expensive and I wouldn't use any of the features other than 5.1Ch decoding.
My audio/video signal source is an Amazon Fire Cube with HDMI out. I need to get that digital signal out to my speakers. With passive speakers it's a...
