• Re: Samsung UN32F5500 smart TV no backlight

This thread is about 1.5 years old, but I appreciate the information. I have bought some replacement LEDS, and am going to try and repair 3 bad strips out of 5.

From what I can see in this case, the LEDS short, not open. Each strip I tested would light up, except for 1 LED on 2 strips, and 2 LEDS on the other strip. So the LEDs have to be shorted.

Ordered 10 LEDs for about $25............

FWIW, have identical set that has same problem.

Replacing main and power supply did not fix problem. Almost certainly a panel issue.

Customer said he is going to donate the set, so we are going to see what we can learn. never disassembled panel before.....

• Re: LG 42PC3D - UD Turns on and off till power is unplugged

Lots of TV companies suggest replacing the y-sus and z-sus at the same time..... looks like you learned that lesson the hard way. Some even suggest changing the y-buffers when you change the y-sus.....

Seems like something could be loading down your power supply, like a bad y-sus or z-sus...... or possible bad y-buffers.....

I would disconnect the y-sus and z-sus one at a time, and see if the power supply stays on. You may even have some bad y-buffers........ If you disconnect the y-sus from the...

While you certainly want low ESR caps, I doubt that using general purpose caps would keep the TV from coming on.....

Short term, they would probably work, long term you would want to put some good caps in..........

Well, if its mounted on the ceiling over your bed, that wouldn't be so bad!

• Re: 42lg30-ua lcd inverters

This will help you ensure that is is the inverters, and not a power supply problem. Normally the only thing I will attempt to repair on inverters is the capacitors. If they are puffy or bulged.

Other than that, you normally just replace the inverters.......

I have just changed one inverter before, but it is a risk. If you can, best to change both.

• Re: Samsung PS-42V4S Shuts down after like 35min

If you are repairing your on TV..... and have the time, some tech savy, and lots of patience, you can sometimes repair things to component level. But in TV's, this "normally" limited to the power supply, because a lot of the other boards have lots of small surface mount components, makes it difficult, even for the best trained. Thus in most cases (other than power supply), probably best to isolate to one particular board, and replace that board.

In a business situation, you just don't have the luxury of spending...

• Re: 42" vizio/lg plasma sound no picture

Thanks Bill,

After all that, I quoted the customer to repair the unit, but he decided to buy an Insignia 42" plasma for $429......

These plasma sets are so cheap, and LG wants so much for parts, it makes it difficult.

And I have not been too impressed with Insignia thus far!

Anyway, thanks fort the help! Will try to contribute to the forum were I can!

• Re: Philips LCD 42PFL5432D/37 - Bad PSU

And ALWAYS make sure you get 105c (or higher) rated caps......

Some manufacturers will try to get away with 85c caps, and they will not last nearly as long as a good 105c rated caps.

105c caps are also rated for lifetime, whether it be 1000hrs, 2000hrs, 3000hrs, etc.
You want to choose the best caps you can, while at the same time keeping the price reasonable.

• Re: 42" vizio/lg plasma sound no picture

I have checked all the voltages on the panel, and they check good. Vs, Va, Vsc, -VY, +5, +12, +15, etc...... I can't find a bad voltage on the panel.

There is a switch on the power supply, "auto/normal". With the switch set in normal, the voltages come on for about 15-20 seconds, the cycle off. I assume this is "protect mode". If you place the switch in "auto", the power supply comes on as soon as power is applied, and the voltages do not go off at all.

Weird to see a panel where...

• Re: 42" vizio/lg plasma sound no picture

Bill,

Thanks for the reply. Other than the Vs and Va, what other "output voltages" are you referring to?

As I stated before, I have my Vs and Va voltages, they are correct while the set is on.......

Did find this on LG's website....... it may be helpful to me, or others.....

If I follow this chart, it is suggests checking VSC and VY voltages. VSC is the Vscan voltage, found on the Ysus board, but what is -VY?????

Also notice the note about using...

• Re: 42" vizio/lg plasma sound no picture

Howdy all, am working on a vizio P42HDTV10A with an LG PDP42X32000 panel.

I have become somewhat familiar with checking the panel voltages, and if you are missing a correct voltage, remove power from the Zsus or Ysus boards to see if you can isolate which board is causing the voltage drop.

I "briefly" looked at a set today where the unit "clicks" when the unit is plugged in to AC, and clicks when the on switch is depressed. I have my Vs and Va voltages, and then then unit will shut down,...
