Re: MBP A1707 2017 RAM issue
I don't have BGA rework tools by myself. But I have a donor board with 99% for sure good Ram chips.
I spoke to my friend with all the necessary BGA rework tools. He told me it's easier to replace the 4 chips at once as one by one, testing,... etc.
When it's almost impossible to determine which chip is defective, I'll change them all.
PS: thanks for the documentation provided!

MBP A1707 2017 RAM issue
Short history of this machine...
Runs on Catalina, customer wants to upgrade to BigSur. Crash and not possible to install no matter which OS.
Reinstalled a TimeMachine backup from Catalina on an empty SSD. Succes.
Worked well, customer doesn't do heavy tasks. A few years later, he had to upgrade to Monterey, same problem.
I did the same (install a TM backup), but once booted in OS machine does weird things, but is operative.
Let run Memtest en gives a RAM error. Look on thumbnail

Re: How does an USB-C charger switches on?
The problem of the macbook is solved... Not repairable; there're lot of copper paths which becomes loose. Don't know what happened with this board, I've never seen this before.
Anyway, I figured out (thanks for the URL's) the importance of the CC pins. The data on this CC pins are responsible for selecting the output voltage.
But, measuring on VBUS or CC pins with disconnected charger, but charger plugged in in 230V AC, gives... nothing. Nor measured with scope, nor with multimeter.
The USB-C plugged in in...

How does an USB-C charger switches on?
A common USB-C charger seems not to give 5V when he's not connecting to an appliance. When connected, it starts with 5V and goes up to the tension needed.
In my case I'm working on a Apple A1707 macbook, with defective CD3215 chips.
On one port that previously worked, my charger doesn't switch on.
But what makes this charger to switch on. Does it has to sense a load, or does it require data on some line, or how...
Seems to be a mystery. Hopefully someone can explain this.

Apple A1706 820-00923 PM_SYSRST_L drops while booting
The previous owner said this MacBook was fallen from the table. I don't know if this was the reason of the malfunction. No visible damages.
I'll explain the history of the repair:
Original it started with 20V 900mA current, drops to 700 and ends with 660. CPU became hot. Every important tension was present as it should be.
Reballed CPU, no solution.
Wrote a file with clean ME into EFI chip, no solution. Sometimes while doing further measurements in cold condition I've got a backlight for a few seconds.
At a certain moment, out of the...Last edited by Beeldbuisje; 04-18-2022, 02:08 AM.

Re: A1706 820-00923 CPU gets warm, no post
update: ALL_SYS_PWR_GOOD is high, which proves the well functioning of all power lines.
I mesured with oscilloscope SPI_MLB_IO1_MISO and SPI_MLB_IO0_MOSI and there's communication visible till the current drops to 666mAmps.
Removed BIOS chip and current stays on 500mAmps. CPU seems to read from BIOS.
Anyone who could tell something more with this update?

A1706 820-00923 CPU gets warm, no post
This MacBook is fallen on is back, says the previous owner, after this nothing.
Every tension on the CPU is present. With board disconnected, board takes first 820 mAmps, falls down to 720, falls down till 666mAmps and stays.
No backlight enable signal, no post signal and CPU gets warm. After a while the fans starts spinning because of the hot heatsinks.
Long press on the TouchID button switches the laptop off and 2nd press back on. Battery charges and on battery the same behavior.
CPU reballed, no improvement.
Dead CPU, or other...

Works screen 15"A1707 on motherboard 13"A1706
I have a Macbook pro A1706 with 820-00923 board. No Apple logo, nothing else.
Every power source is present, laptop has fallen down from a table, no visible damage.
Starts with 20V 830mA, after 10 seconds it becomes +/- 590mA steady. CPU gets hot after a while, fans starts to spin. You can switch it on/off by holding touch id/power button.
Probably bad contacts on CPU so Reballing adviced?
To exclude a bad screen, is it possible to connect this mainboard on a screen of a A1707 with 820-00928 board?
Thanks

A1708 820-00875 battery drain in stby after SSD replacement by original one
the A1708 is famous for battery drain in stby if a non OEM Apple SSD is installed.
Got this machine with a defective SSD, installed an adaptor + 2242 nvme for testing. Works fine, but battery drain in standby; normal behavior.
I ordered a used, but exactly the same SSD (the same Apple part number) second hand (from a macbook with screen issues). Works fine, laptop lasts 10H on one battery charge.
Put them in deepstandby, confirmed by the pmset logs, and drains his battery in less than a week. Better as with an adaptor + nvme, but not the 30 days it...

Re: MBP 13" A1708 820-00840A drains battery in Standby
Discovered the issue, but I'm afraid it isn't solvable...
The SSD has been changed in this machine by an adapter and a 2242 NVMe.
I've got another A1708 last week. Changing the SSD's changes the problem.
It seems there're no workarounds available to solve this issue.

Re: MBP 13" A1708 820-00840A drains battery in Standby
Jep, I know, but while working on this laptop the power consumption is higher as in standby.
With a bad battery, you should expect a shorter working time.
There are already a lot of parts changed on this device (LCD under warranty, SSD, keyboard). I have to be sure before ordering a new battery.

MBP 13" A1708 820-00840A drains battery in Standby
Laptop was completely dead, cool vent full with dust, cleaned, reflowed CPU and worked fine again since January.
Working on this machine gives a battery life time of +/- 8h, cycle count 908, but the battery gives "normal" status in MacOS.
Clean install of BigSur, last version. But, when flipping down the screen, the system should go to standby mode.
When you try to wake it up, it takes some seconds, so it seems he's indeed in standby. But after +/-2 days, the battery is completely empty.
Looking on activity monitor, shows an abnormal battery...

Philips QFU1.1 Kernel Panic
Typical issues of a QFU chassis: doesn't start sometimes, sometimes nothing after some hours etc.
When not starting, this thing gives a Kernel panic when logging.
So first things first: reballing of the Fusion, same behavior. Tried a NAND from a working SSB from exactly the same tv (40PFL8007K/12), the same Kernel panic.
I know too little from a Linux system to interpret this error. Could a Linux professionalgive me some help pls.
When I log the working SSB, I've got exactly the same till the Kernel Panic.
Please find the...

Re: Philips 55PFL7007H Vertical lines
Fur sure a defective panel. Equipped with a Samsung panel i guess?
Samsung 3D panels of that age starts to get this behavior very often. They're also used in Loewe tv's, Samsung itself etc.
I've seen this issue many, many times. It's begun last year.
The connections of the banding cables on the glass of the panel become loose. I never was lucky enough to restore this.
