• Re: Identify Caps

I have the same mobo with bulging caps, and I'm also wondering what brand and series those caps are. Does anyone know ?
I have seen them several times in different (cheap) boards, but I'm still unsure of who made them. One example would be an ECS P4M800PRO-M2 that I have lying here that also has 4 of those caps in the VRM area, mixed with 2 solid OST (?, the ones with the T encircled) 560uf. Thanks.

• Re: ASUS P4S800D-X - Won't POST, gives beep codes - Help needed

I first tried checking between drain and source on a working mobo, just to see and test what happened, and I ended up getting a lot of beep noises from my DMM, which I think means there's a short there ? But the mobo works OK, so I'm probably doing something wrong. I don't know how to test mosfets. I tried doing it in the dead mobo, and I came across 2 mosfets which didn't gave any reading at all between drain and source. I'm doing it right ? I put the DMM into the beep mode (don't know how to call it in english) to...

PSU used for testing right NOW is a CoolerMaster Silent Pro M 600w (RS-600-AMBA-D3) that I purchased new to replace the existing one that currently sits inside my main PC (PowerCooler PS-500SS, close to be 5 years old now). Prior to that I was testing with a recapped (with Panasonic FC) Tagan 380w (TG380-U01) that worked OK with any other things I throwed at it.
Components I used for testing this mobo works OK in another ASUS P4P800-X (Intel chipset) and MSI 661FM-L (Sis chipset) mobos I have here right now,...

Thanks for all the suggestions.

First I went and washed the board, since it had some thick layers of dust here and there. No luck, the board still hung at the same place.
Since now it was clean, I looked very carefully for broken traces, but couldn't find any. Really, the board is in very good condition, not a single scratch anywhere.
Then I recapped all the OST RLS 1000uf 6.3v ones with NEW KZG, same values. I tried again, still no luck, the board hangs.
Then I recapped all the OST...

I finally had time and went and bought the 2SC5706 transistors. I soldered both on the board, no problem with that. Now the 3 main problems the mobo exhibited are solved.
1. The board now correctly powers up from the power up pins.
2. Now voltage at the DDR slots is 2.65v.
3. Now the board boots up!

But... the problem now is that it hangs at the first POST screen, the initial one. It correctly tests memory, and when it's about to change to the second part of the POST (when it's going...

^ MUCH, MUCH appreciated brethin ! Thanks for taking the time to see those components. Mine is a rev. 1.00 also. Will write again in a few days and post the results of what happened to the board.

@PCBONEZ: it's just for fun, so don't worry about it. In fact, among all the stuff that was on the box, this is the only thing that isn't working, that's why I thought: 'hey, maybe it's fixable after all!'. So maybe I end up beign really lucky and can make this one work again.

Thanks for all your...

Hmmm.... after further inspecting of the motherboard, I discovered that there's another transistor missing from the board...
I'm having my doubts now as if this board is fixable or not, or if it's worth trying to repair... There has to be a meaning as to why this components are missing and why no one tried to replace them...

The one missing now is Q57, it's located between the fourth and fifth PCI slot.
So, again, I'm requesting your help here Brethin. Can you tell me what was on Q57 originally...

Yep. As I said in the first post, the VRM input caps are KZE.
Then the VRM out caps are OST RLZ, then there are 15 more OST RLS scattered through the board, and some more 100uf, 16v ones of a brand I can't clearly read what it says... but they're TK series, that's clearly readable. Could it be Ltec or something like that ?

No one knows why some mobos refuse to boot from the power up pins but otherwise they work just fine ?

@Brethin: could you tell me what it says on the 3 transistors...

@370forlife: Yes, that would explain why the PCB looks undamaged nor burned. Notice also the bottom part on the left capacitor, the plastic cover burned there too. I don't know the history of the board, but if it only doesn't work because of that, it seems weird why no one replaced it. I'm just hoping that to be the case.

@PCBONEZ: Yes, those OSTs bugged me, so they'll be replaced, but first I want to resolder the missing component, and then see how things are.
Those 2.1v at the ram slots still...

Why are you angry ? I told you I was beign ignorant, that's why I asked... and also I only asked to know if you had the same mobo...
I'm from Argentina and english is not my language. If I offended you with some of my words then I'm sorry, wasn't my intention.
Thanks for the reply.

I'll have to order the component, so it'll take some days to finally test it again.
Hope it works after I put the missing component back. But, there has to be a motive as to why it heated so much in the...

Pardon my ignorance, but does that mean I can't use an APM2014N there ?
I'm asking because I have some unused ones of those.
Did you have the same board to check that component ?
Thanks

• Re: ASUS P4S800D-X - Won't POST, gives beep codes - Help needed

I think I have identified what the problem really is, and it seems to be pretty obvious, but I couldn't spot it earlier. There's a missing component at Q7. Seems like it has desoldered itself seeing as how the ram slot is burned at the edge.
Do you guys think I could have fried something by powering up the mobo without that component ?
Also, the problem now is that I don't even know what component and value was there originally. At the other side of the memory slots there are 3 APM2014N mosfets. Could...

That CPU has a 400 Mhz FSB, but I also tried with a Prescott 3.0 Ghz, 800 Mhz FSB, still the same. The board supports the 400 Mhz FSB CPUs. All the 512 MB modules I tried are 400 Mhz, the rest (some 128 MB ones and more of 256 MB) are 333 Mhz. Thanks for the reply.

Hi.
I recently got my hands on a box full of old computer parts, consisting mainly in video cards, motherboards and some CPUs.
Inside the box was another box with this P4S800D-X mobo, completely full with their manual, CDs, backplate, etc. The board looks like used, but, apart from the dust, it seems like it is perfectly fine. No broken traces, no bulging capacitors, no burned components, no PCB burned signs... It's a P4 mobo using DDR ram slots, and using a SiS 655FX chipset. It also support dual-channel, SATA drives and is Prescott ready.

But there is a problem with...

• Re: Fake Panasonic FL caps ?

I'm planning to buy one, but don't have one right now, sorry.
Thanks for the explanation about the datecodes. I still don't know what that inverted triangle means, as there's no explanation for it in the thread you pointed me to. There should be a letter (A-Z) there...

EDIT: I guess it's not a "triangle" but supposed to be a V.

EDIT2: The ones with the red datecode seems to be taller than the other ones. Is that normal ?Re: Fake Panasonic FL caps ?

Doesn't the bungs look weird ? I thought Panasonic ones are like the first two capacitors in the pics. What does that date code with the inverted triangle at the end could possibly mean ?

• Re: Fake Panasonic FL caps ?

Thanks. I'll wait for another reply then...
It also seems weird to me, as this seller seemed to be very "trusted" among eBay, at least from posts I read here at badcaps, but those caps looks really odd...

• Fake Panasonic FL caps ?

Hello guys.
I recently purchased 12 Panasonic FL caps through eBay, from member PCMCS (egekecu) which I "thought" was a "trusted" seller...
This is the link of the auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300355937594
Upon receiving the envelope and after opened it, I found that not all the 12 caps were the same. There were 5 odd looking ones...
Are these caps fake ? On the pics, the two ones on the left looks ok to me, the ones on the...

• Re: Advice regarding Tagan TG380-U01 recap

Pardon my ignorance, but is it normal for the PSU to make noises while it's operating ?
This PSU makes noise while it operates, I'm not talking about fan noises, or high pitched sounds... it sounds like... a clock ticking very fast. It changes the speed depending on how much load the PSU has (for example, it's different when the PC is idling, but changes when it's at full load). Hope that made sense. Would a recording of the sound be useful ?

Those were exactly the ones I mentioned earlier. Only the BXA seem to fit though. Thanks for your confirmation and tip. If I buy from ebay, I'll probably buy all that I need from that seller.
