Re: Synology DS415+ Cr1220 holder problem
I’m starting to think that the button issue is down to the bios battery, as it will start but as mentioned takes a few attempts to turn on, looked over the button and it reaches.
Is it possible that the battery for the bios is not good enough for the board and takes time to function and the original battery holder is better?

Re: Synology ds415+
Yeh I come across these now and again, but this was supposed to be an easy fix but as usual people are vague and lie, I haven’t heard of a resistor fix not working before, I did it twice just incase, will look at the memory stick later and maybe look at the cpu itself, but will have to find some info on the chip

Synology ds415+
Got another synology ds415+ was told that it is just flashing blue power light.
Opened it up and found residue of a previous resistor fox that had been removed and cleaned up a bit but under the microscope it shows
I did the resistor fix twice just to be sure but all I get is the blue power button flashing for over 20 minutes each time until I power it off.
Anyway I changed the power supply for a known working new and same problem also replaced the cmos battery
Only thing I can think of is a possible problem with the memory stick it's...

Re: Synology DS218+ no power
Also just noticed that pic 3 (circled in red) shows a SK34C chip that I needed for the 1520+ I posted a few months ago in this section, only problem is I’m not sure if I trust them and my replacement chips are in the uk and on way to me with the replacement switch for the 415+ so hopefully be able to sort them this week

Re: Synology DS218+ no power
I didn't clean it or the board as this looks a mess you can see someone has taken the power supply off and resoldered on the board
I'm probably better off using the board for parts and selling the case off etc, then what's left of motherboard I can use for micro soldering testing...

Synology DS218+ no power
This has same issue as the ds718+ no power and greened light stays on with new power supply
I'm going to change the 2032 cmos and see if this does anything, as the visual inspection did not pick up any holes in this chips on this motherboard.
There is a suspect place I noticed on pic 3, it looks out of place
Edit: Also found this on the U3 chip pic 4 and used microscope on pic 5
There are quite a few posts on this model again doing the same no power or it shuts down overnight, most seem to be the power supply but as mentioned this is...

Re: Synology ds718+
Hmmm yes I figured there would be a problem last night, I even popped on synology to see if anyone else had this issue, might be worth speaking with synology and see what they say
Also do you think they are individual chips for that serial number or for that model?
I found a ds218+ that I had a while ago same problem, it won’t power but led stays light on so going to have a look at that now and see if it’s the same problem

Re: Synology ds718+
U1 has possible writing on the top, so will use the digital microscope to get a decent picture, iPad and phone won't be able to get close enough to read, specially with the hole.
Eu1 is more of a scratch on top but again I will get the digital microscope out and get closer pics of it
Ok I have used the digital microscope to get these pics as a iPhone or iPad can't get to this level, then used iPhone to capture from microscope screen
Pic 1 and 2 is of eu1
Pic 3...

Re: Synology ds718+
I tried to edit my post but I can't after 90 mins.
Anyway I had another look around the motherboard and noticed this on 1 of the chips a hole, unsure what kind of chip that is and if it is the reason for no power....

Re: Synology ds718+
I tried a different setting and the 1's I have tested go up in numbers except 2
Attached pics of the 2 that won't work like the others
On the others I can use the multimeter on the single leg and get a reading of it going up to 5.30 ish, but the other 2 I have to use a different leg to get a reading.
The 2 other readings
1 does go up in voltage to 5.00 ish like the others (pic 1) but on the double leg side rather than the single leg side,
2 the 1 I think is a problem comes on at 2.14 and is instant and does...

Synology ds718+
Got 1 of these machines, was originally told it hadn't been opened b4, up that was a lie because their is a memory module in the 2nd memory slot.
Anyway I have opened it up, switched the bios battery for a new 1, no power still
I also had a brand new power supply handy and that has a solid blue light still when plugged into the 718+ unlike the 1520+ that the led light goes out on the power supply when plugged in.
So my assumption is a transistor is shorting on the board, there is no info online about the 718+ except a video on YouTube again...

Re: Synology DS1520+ no power
Sorry been away for a while due my wife’s mother passing away, wasn’t easy due to wife being polish and we live in the uk
Anyway I have ordered a batch of sk34c and I upgraded my setup, wasn’t good enough for what I need to do
Workstation with a blower, previous was just a soldering machine, also a few other things I won’t bore you with.
Also looking at repairing iPads and iPhones also got a thermal imager for finding shorts on chips v’s manually checking each 1, also got a laminate machine and...

Re: Synology DS415+ chip programming
Also be interested in knowing this, for future refs, similar prob as yours the chip protecting the power supply to motherboard has possibly shorted, so looking to get a replacement chip, I have posted about it on here as well in same section as you.
I have another project (not nas released) with a bios chip that I want to reprogram and this will have to be reprogrammed itself…

Re: Synology DS1520+ no power
It is something to look into, I spoke with the guy selling the chips and he says they are the same model, but with the Chinese you have to be sure as it’s a nightmare trying to return everything, plus can take up to a month to get the chips.
The solder I ordered got lost in the post and only yesterday a replacement was dispatched, so hoping today or tomorrow I will get the solder so I can find out for sure, it’s frustrating at times waiting...

Re: Synology DS415+ power button response issue
Agreed the power button should be a couple of seconds before it start booting up, mine was hit and miss, it would take around 5 or so attempts at starting.
There is a small gap I expect from the button on chassis to the actual button on motherboard, I have tried to move the button by 1mm by pitting a small thing plastic behind the button but again it won’t work
I ordered solder removal, the 1st one was lost in transit and only yesterday a replacement sent, and this is in the same country as me.

Re: Synology DS415+ power button response issue
It's strange it takes around 5 or 6 attempts at powering on the front, I have removed the motherboard and will take a better picture.
I will try and see if I can just tap the motherboard button and see if that works on the 1st attempt, if it does then will have to look at the power on button....

Re: Synology DS1520+ no power
I would have to double check and make sure that it's the correct paperwork as I have seen some being misleading.
But may be an idea to start looking at a few of the company's you mentioned I knew of 2
I'm just waiting on the solder wick so I can clean and remove the 1 side of the SK34C chip

Synology DS415+ power button response issue
Had another issue with turning the machine on (1 in 5 it will turn on) so had to strip it down again thinking the power on button is damaged but it is in good condition, then had a look at the motherboard button and it looks like a part of it has snapped off see attached pics.
Can anyone recommend a replacement for the motherboard, it has 8 pins and would prefer a blue led if possible.
The closest I have found is part number: PB6156RSL-4-102 (Blue led) PB6156RSL-3-102 (green) but agin struggling to find that part in the uk...
