  • Edac/Drobo Power Supply Fuse

    Hello,

Looking for next steps on troubleshooting for an external power supply made by EDAC, model EA11011H-120. The power supply was dropped onto a tile floor and initially and briefly worked but the led power indicator light faded out and the power supply showed no signs of life since.

In disassembly, I found that the large capacitor had leaked and was reading open when measured. The fuse nearest to the AC in had also blown, with no continuity. I ordered a new capacitor and fuse and replaced both, but on power-up with no load the fuse immediately blew.

  • Re: Samson Servo 120 Amp Issues

Thank you for the tips. I believe the large 3300uf caps have gone bad. All have some form of brown gunk underneath, which I suppose could've been glue that is no longer acting as glue. I'm going to start with those caps and then systematically work my way through the others.

Do resistors go bad as much or regularly as capacitors? There are some fairly large, maybe 2W, resistors on the board. They don't appear to be damaged....

    Samson Servo 120 Amp Issues

    Hello,

I have an old Samson Servo 120 (not the Servo 120a) amplifier that has a weird audio issue and I'm not sure where to begin troubleshooting. When playing music through the amp, the music will cut out or drop slightly, almost like dirty volume pots. I've done the basic "turn the pots up and down several times" cleaning that we do when this happens on the road, but I have the opportunity to actually try to fix the issue now. It's not a full-on drop out like when the amp is overdriven and a channel cuts out - I've had that happen with different amps and this is different....

  • Re: PowerBook M4896 Adapter

From what I recall, the Apple adapters are usually glued. I've tried variations of heat gun and pry tools to pry them apart with the least damage. Snap ring pliers work good too, once you have enough space to fit them in.

I could be misremembering, but I thought some of the Apple adapters had a screw underneath a label. But I've done enough tear downs on power adapters that I could be completely mixing that up with another brand.

  • Identifying Speaker Connector

    Hello,

Hoping for some help identifying a speaker connector for a Toshiba TY-ASW91 stereo. I have attached photos of the connector with some rough measurements and a photo of the pins on the inside of the plastic housing. My searches on Mouser have thus far revealed several that *seem* close but I don't think they're right.

Hopefully good parts. Mouser-sourced for everything except the 4.7uF 35V for which I had to salvage a close-enough used part until I have enough need to pay shipping for another order from Mouser or Digikey... which reminds me...

  • Re: PowerBook M4896 Adapter

    Hello,

It turned out that the small electrolytic capacitor between board edge and white film capacitor had leaked, though it was impossible to see until removing it from the board. Along the way I replaced output capacitors and the capacitor between the transformer and big cap. The latter capacitor was bulging on the bottom slightly.

For future reference, because the values were difficult to see until I removed them from the board, the electrolytic capacitor between the transformer and big capacitor is 120uF 16V from Nichicon...

  • PowerBook M4896 Adapter

    Hello,

I've inherited a few PowerBook 3400C laptops, two of which are working and one potentially repairable, though may be used as spare parts. All have power supplies but only one power supply actually works. All of the adapters appeared in good shape, so I disassembled one of them in hopes of figuring out what was wrong. However, I haven't had any success thus far and I'm unsure of the circuit design so I don't want to go poking at it too much and end up on the AC side.

I have tried different input AC cables but no matter the input, there is no output. I am attaching...

    Hello-

Have been lurking here for a while and learned a good deal by doing so. Finally need to post, so here's the requisite introductory post.
