Man, these LCD and Plasma TVs are just plain problematic.
My sister 32 inch LCD sceptre has a bad solder joint I think.
It comes on with from red light to blue light. Everything works for about 5 minutes and then the screen goes dark. blue light stays on.
I unplugged the TV for about 10 minutes and it comes back on the the picture goes away again.
Changed out the inverter board but that does not appear to fix the problem. how do I determine if the T-con is working properly or not?

Re: ESR meter - recommendations?
I picked up the ESR Micro V4 and a FBTtester too! Mike shipped it to me in less than 10 days! The ESR meter is great, now I am trying to understand how to use the FBT meter properly.
Thanks everyone!

Re: ESR meter - recommendations?
I read that comparison but it did not include RussMike..
I will check the radio forum to see what comes up. I can send RussMike an email too.
Thanks everybody..

Re: Imac Isight G5 PSU repair
thanks a bunch! this is very helpful.
BTW.. the MB I am looking at uses surface mount caps and they all look ok to me.
I need to buy a ESR meter..

ESR meter - recommendations?
I could use some help deciding which ESR meter to purchase. I need one that I can use in circuit..
I see three candidates that are good, trying to figure out which one to purchase.
Atlas ESR70
Blue by Bob Parker
ESR Micro by RusMike
From what I have read in this forum, everyone seemed to be happy with their meter. Maybe it does not matter which one I go with?
thanks

anyone used the Capacheck capacitor analyzer?
Found this interesting in circuit capacitor tester. It appears to be cheaper than the capanalyzer with a higher capacitance range 9999 uf vs. 2200 uf..
I would like to know if anyone here has used this instrument?

Re: Power Supply Pin Out help?
I thought it typed it in but the sentence is incomplete...
HiPro 614-0415 is the psu part number. I am surprised it is complete different than my Imac psu even though it is still an Imac model.

Power Supply Pin Out help?
My friend sees me working on my Imac PSU and wanted to know if he can get info on fixing his PSU.
His is from the nicer aluminum Imac G5 20 inch computer. This power supply is completely different from my Acbel. This Hipro psu
What he cannot seem to locate is the pin out for the output side. It has 10 pins total compared to my5 pins.
His other question is SMD capacitor, how to remove them without a smd desoldering gun? can you test them in circuit?...

Re: Any thoughts on the $11 Radio Shack desoldering iron?
I have the radio shack bulb desoldering gun but picked up a desoldering gun with a push button type sucker built it. I really like it since it is more effective than the radio shack gun.
I even bought a few more for gifts and back up.

Re: Imac Isight G5 PSU repair
sorry, typo 16V not 26V... thanks.
2200 uf at 16V is 12.5x25mm; 1000 uf at 16V is 10x20mm; 68 uf at 25V is 5x11mm.
all are panasonic series at mouser...
any comments on the high temp vs. low ESR panasonic cap series?

Re: Imac Isight G5 PSU repair
Thanks for the help. Sorry for the bad image.
I have (3) 2200 uf at 26V, (1) 1000 uf at 16V, (1) 68 uf at 25V for capacitors..
There are two blue components underneath the copper heat sink but it does not look like capacitors to me. attached image.
Question.. Panasonic has the high temp caps with low impedance. Is this better than low ESR caps?...

Re: Imac Isight G5 PSU repair
Studied the board a little more and noticed one pin is missing on the IC chip.. attached image. This chip looks heat stressed compare to the bottom chip. chip labeled LM339G PCT610?...

Re: Imac Isight G5 PSU repair
nothing underneath the copper heat sink enclosure.
There is a small (start up?) cap underneath the large 420V cap though..
no signs of bulging on any caps though.

Re: Imac Isight G5 PSU repair
black to gray, I am getting 12V on both gray terminals. Black to brown, close to nothing or in the low mV region.
I am also nearing a relatively high pitch hum too.

Re: Imac Isight G5 PSU repair
the 24V was just a wild guess for the brown wire.. since the gray wire is 12V.. I will hook it up and check.

Re: Imac Isight G5 PSU repair
RTN2 for the black and PFW for the brown? no clue to what that could stand for.
