  • Re: GigaByte K8NSC-939

A quick update, I replaced the 5 bulging caps (6.3v 1000uf HMs) with exact replacements and the MB has not shutdown once after staying on a full day. I know I should probably replace all the caps but I may just ride this out as I really want to get to my shuttles

I am going to do a fresh windows install as well and leave it at that for now.

    Thanks-

Yes, I know that's the way I'll go. I'm going to make a list of all the values etc..

I also have three shuttles in my garage with bad caps. I'll make a different post when I get to those. This site really opened my eyes on why comps go bad.

    Thanks...

I take it this is the code: A0451

I looked for the manufacturer date but the font is so small I need a magnifying glass. I'd say it's about 5 to 6 yrs old though running a P4 I believe....

This is my brother's computer MB. The computer boots fine but then shuts down randomly and starts going into a rebooting cycle.

I found 5 bulging caps evident in the photo below.

I'm going to change those 5 caps and see if that fixes it.

    I'll let you know.

    Thanks...

  • Re: Hanns-G HG281D, LCD Monitor no power

Okay, here is an update with my Hanns-G 28" LCD monitor.

I first replaced the caps on the power board and it did not do anything for my LCD. I experienced the same symptoms as before, shakiness and shutoff after a minute or so. I gave up for a few months but then decided to replace all the caps from the main board and BINGO! The LCD works just like new again.

I 'm so proud of myself and I have this forum to thank, so THANK YOU for introducing me to all these cap issues...

  • Re: Are these good replacements?

    Won't the 10v vs 6.3v for the 1000uf caps make a difference?

The 6.3v vs 10v in the 470uf sound ok since 10v is higher than required...at least in my head. Also, the diameter of the 470uf should be ~4.5mm since they go in between other tight components..

Thanks guys....I spent like 45 min in DigiKey looking for those links, duh! Sorry guys!...

  • Re: Hanns-G HG281D, LCD Monitor no power

Okay, I just ran the fan test and I get the same result. I pointed the fan to the power board, I turned on the monitor and it stayed on for about 5 minutes then it shut off and the blue power light stayed on. I hit the power button again and it would shut off. Turning on the monitor again would stay on for a few seconds then shutoff. I did notice shakiness in the screen text.

I pointed the fan at every circuit board aswell and same thing.

    Not sure what's going on.

Unfortunately, I have not had a chance to do the fan test. I think I will have time tonight. I will post my findings right after....

    A. Power LED stays on.
    B. No image when flashing a light on it.

I'll try the fan thing tomorrow.

    Thanks!...

I will experiment with that this weekend and get back to you.

    Thanks for the suggestion....

No go. It was worth a shot I guess. I replaced all caps with Panasonic FMs except for the huge one. Same symptoms..turns on fine for 15min or so then shuts off. Will turn on again then shut off after a couple of seconds.

Anyways, I don't want to high jack this thread but I'll keep trying after I read more on this.

    Thanks

Yes, I tried warranty service but I don't have a receipt and Hans-G basically refused to service it.

So rather than just have it take space, I decided to try to fix it myself. Yes, I was rather surprised it failed so quickly too but the symptoms really match those described in this forum with the cap issues.

I'll let you know how it went. The caps should be here early next week.

I'm in the process of recapping the power board on my HG281D as well. Ordered the caps from Digi-key, on their way now.

Mine turns on for a while (15 mins or so) then shuts off. I can turn it on again and same thing happens except it shuts off within ~10-20 secs.

My power board looks different than yours and has a manufactured date of May 2009. Here is a pic with cap values:...

  • Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

Hi all, my name is Alex. I ran into this forum looking to see if anyone else had issues with a Hanns-G HG281D. Apparently, people have. I am going recap the power board and see what happens. I will buy quality caps from the links being suggested in this board. I also have another LCD screen with similar shutting off issues that I already tried to recap but with no good results (perhaps the Radio Shack caps?).

    I'll see ya around!
