Re: Samsung Syncmaster 245B
It seems to have stopped completly now its been on for an hour - I think I'll take your advice and just change all the caps though to be honest, should only cost about £10 and hopefully would mean i dont need to tear it apart again for quite some time.
Thank you to the guys at HEGE supporting Badcaps [ HEGE ] [ HEGE DEX Chart ]

Re: Samsung Syncmaster 245B
Had the monitor on for a bit longer now and the flickering seems to have decreased a lot if that helps. It now flickers once every 3-10mins so guessing it gets better as something gets warmer.Last edited by Rhodri2311; 02-12-2011, 10:01 AM.

Re: Samsung Syncmaster 245B
Huzzah! Made good progress - replaced all 3 of those resistors and the screen now has life. Works fine except the image flickers faily regularly, so still not 100%. (I had to replace the resistors with larger ones as my choice was between a 1w which was far too small and the 2w that was bigger).
Thanks for the help guys, any idea what could be causing the flickering? The flickering is almost a very rapid dimming of the image that happens every 10seconds or so and will happen quite rapidly.Last edited by Rhodri2311; 02-12-2011, 09:49 AM.

Re: Samsung Syncmaster 245B
It's manual, set to 200. I mean there is no change in the reading at all, stays on 1, as if there's no resistance at all.

Re: Samsung Syncmaster 245B
Only other thing I've noticed is I've gone around the board checking the reisistors and a few of them don't seem to give any response (such as RX801S) is this normal?
Yeah I think I'll change the 3 together as they all look rather burnt

Re: Samsung Syncmaster 245B
Taken RB805 out and it's dead. Tested qb801 02 and 03 but couldn't get a result on any of them.

Re: Samsung Syncmaster 245B
Sorry it's not very clear in that photo - QM802 is marked above RM812, I'm not sure what part to test though. When you say 1-2 for example do you mean the pins on it?

Re: Samsung Syncmaster 245B
RB806 & 807 measured close to 67 each, 805 there was no reading at all so looks like that may well be dead.
QM802 I'm still confused by - this is what I'm looking at....

Re: Samsung Syncmaster 245B
Do you mean to measure the voltages? RB805, 806 & 807 all appear to be scourched quite a lot.
Fuse seems to be ok, resistence measures 0.04
How do I test QM802? I can see it marked on the bottom of the board but not tell what part it's connected to as there are lots next to it.

Re: Samsung Syncmaster 245B
Thanks for that, downloaded the manual, not really sure what I'm looking at though. Here's the pictures of the underside of the power board....

Re: Samsung Syncmaster 245B
There's no output 24v DC at all I can see, and the 5v seems to be around 0.05 (although this one did seem to fluxtuate every now and again).

Re: Samsung Syncmaster 245B
Ok the main cap puts out around 320v and on/off goes to 3.3v with the lcd on.

Re: Samsung Syncmaster 245B
There's a pin on the logic board called power_en could that be it?

Re: Samsung Syncmaster 245B
Ok slightly hungover following the Welsh rugby loss but should be fine to tinker today Is there anything else I can check or you can suggest I try? Cheers!

Re: Samsung Syncmaster 245B
Balls read the instructions and had my red and black wires plugged in the wrong way round. Touching the wires gives a result of 0.03 once it's settled down.
Resistence across the fuse seems to be 0.06.
The voltage regulator is: J162 953-18Last edited by Rhodri2311; 02-03-2011, 01:13 PM.

Re: Samsung Syncmaster 245B
Ok some results! First of all I tried testing the logic board fuse, but couldn't get a stable reading at all. It seemed to constantly fluxtuate from 0 to anywhere up to 100.
Next the volatage regulator on the logic board. With the pins at the top and left to right the results were: 1.8v, 0, 2.9v
The DC converter: (pins at top left to right again): 0, 3.3v, 0, 3.33v, 5.2v
And the power supply board:
+24 = 0.03v
SB = 5.23v
5.4v = 0
I'm guessing that's not a sign of a healthy board =...

Re: Samsung Syncmaster 245B
Probably won't get a chance to look at it tomorrow, but should be able to have a fiddle with it wednesday night hopefully, I'll grab as many testings as I can then. Is the ground screw on the logic board just the metal surround on the four screw holes or will I need to earth it to something?

Re: Samsung Syncmaster 245B
I frequently switch parts out of several PC's and ment to pick one up few times to make fault finding easier so about time I picked one up!
Would this be sufficient? http://www.maplin.co.uk/ut30b-palm-sized-digital-multimeter-46498
Thanks for all the help.Re: Samsung Syncmaster 245B<br /> <...er-46498

Re: Samsung Syncmaster 245B
I'll need to pick up a multimeter (terrible I don't have one to be honest), would I need to reasemble the bulk of the monitor before attempting to measure the voltages? Anything I'd need to be careful of? Because I think the ground screw goes through the metal chassis, but it'll be impossible to get to the chip when it's attached to that.
Attached a diagram of the connections on the power supply board....
