I seem to have the same scenario with my ViewSonic VX2235WM. I fire it up and it will run for a couple minutes and goes black. I have over the past year and a half turned the brightness down and extended the 'on' time into hours but gradually I've had to make it dimmer and dimmer in order to get time out of it so I decided to replace the caps (my inexperience thinking it had to be the caps). I opened the monitor and none of the caps are bulging (they are hermei caps by the way) and I can identify nothing that points to the problem. From reading this thread...

Hi everyone, I'm Randy from Nevada (USA) for those not from this country, and from reading this most of you aren't. I'm 57 and have been working in the computer industry for about 30 years.
