• Re: Sceptre x24wg-1080p Broken backlamp

Let me give you guys a little more info.

I have a test system set up (a system I finally got working and then broke the LCD Ribbon cable so it's no good as a display anymore). I have verified that the lower 2 CCFLs work and that the upper two do not. I have tested each bulb individually on my test system (with three other confirmed working bulbs) and have actually found one spot where the CCFL is broken. I know for SURE that the bulbs are at least ONE part of the problem.

I am going to go ahead and test the rest...

I have! They do offer a custom size order but each lamp is going to be over $25 a piece that way. I was looking for a little bit cheaper.

I'm beginning to think that around $50 is going to be the only way to fix this thing. Problem is I don't know if the rest of the board is working correctly so it's a bit of a gamble.

Howdy! I have a Sceptre 24" monitor that has a couple of broken bulbs. I can NOT for the life of me find any 24" screen size bulbs (530mm x 2.0mm) ccfls ANYWHERE.

I have found a large amount in bulk which costs over $50 which isn't terrible, but I'd love to just find the 2 that I need. Does anyone know where to find these large bulbs for a decent price?!

    Thanks!

Hey, thanks for the link, PlainBill!

Just curious, but which kind would I need to buy?

I did try it, and it did not work. Would it be possible to perhaps reheat the strip and connect it again? At this point nothing hurts...

Perhaps use an iron or heat gun? Anyone else have a suggestion?

    LCD Ribbon repair possible?

Hello, I was repairing a monitor backlight and right as I was putting everything back together my finger slid and "unstuck" some of the ribbon cabling going to the LCD screen itself. I've attached a couple pictures to show you what I mean.

Is there any way to repair this? Any tricks I'm not seeing? Am I SOL on this monitor? Thanks!

  • Re: HP W2207 Backlight Problem

Well, I was able to get this thing up and running fully!

I would say that the final thought is that it was a bad CCFL. I DID replace all of the CAPS, but my gut feeling is still that the CCFL lamps were the original culprit.

Boy have I learned a lot from this fix. If anyone stumbles onto this from a Google search and has a question about how to get the damn bezel off of this beast, remove the BLACK FRONT BEZEL that is INSIDE of the outer silver bezel. It's a bit strange, but do NOT try to remove the inner black bezel from...

Genius! I freaking love this forum. After I get my shrink tube I'll try that out.

Ugh, figured out the problem. Broke another bulb while trying to get the fat glass reflector stuff back in. It's a super tight fit. Going to get some more heat shrink tubing to redo it.

I didn't feel like I was forcing it THAT much either. Bah, good thing I bought extra tubes!

"it" was plugging in all 4 CCFLs instead of just one good working one.

I spoke too soon, however, as when I finally started getting the internals placed back inside the LCD case, I tested again and back to the 2 seconds! Yeesh. I'll never get this thing fixed.

Taking it apart again to make sure all my joints are looking good....

I don't want to jynx it but I think that was it! I'm putting everything back together now (it's been so long that I don't actually remember how the LCD panel goes anymore...) and I'll report back when done!

Thanks for the help! You may have just saved me hours and hours!

No, only the one. Should I plug in all 4?

    Resurrecting this thread yet again!

Ok, so I picked up an inexpensive DMM that can measure at the 2k range. Here are my findings:

    As per retiredcaps instructions here:

     Linky

    I measured the red circles:

    .478

    and the yellow circles:

    .484

That looks to be within the 3% threshold....

Awesome! Thanks for the reply. I'll see if I can't find a meter with the 2000 range.

Sorry I keep dragging this out. It's been a while since I've been able work on this again. I'm attaching a picture of my multimeter in hopes that someone can tell me which setting to use. When I measured it using the circled settings shown in the picture I didn't get a very good reading.

Thanks if anyone can tell me what to set it to to measure the inverter....

Hey, sorry about the delay. I finally measured the ohms of the locations you highlighted. I have my device set to 200k and was unable to get ANY reading. I even tried 20M and only got 0.00 on both.

They are Su'scon... Damn, I really wish I had an ESR meter. Can't justify it quite yet. I'll take that into consideration, after I've had a go at testing the transformer, just to check. What about that big fatty Cap? Are those readily available?

  • Re: HP W2207 Backlight Problem

    Well, bad news.

After replacing the CCFLs, I still have the same 2 seconds to black problem. I would like to test the transformers, but I'm honestly not sure which parts are the transformers and which pins I need to test.

Any advice on how to test this particular monitor's transformer? I read up on the post about the basics to do to test 2 seconds to black, but I didn't get quite enough info to test the transformers. (this post: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=10419 )

    Any help...

  • Re: HP W2207 Backlight Problem

Thanks again very much for the info. I plan on writing out a guide for each of these particular models for people like me who had no idea where to start when fixing these things.

I ordered some CCFLs and they will be here in about 10 days. I plan on testing the inverter transformers as well and see if there are other issues there.

I'll post back when I for sure find out what the problem was, and I'll post a link to my guide which will hopefully have very neat pictures and a disassembly (since when I looked there were...
