Re: Corsair cx600 psu & ASRock B450Pro4 mobo wont start
It's my understanding that the 5V Standby is often a separate supply in most ATX designs, so it, theoretically, shouldn't care what the rest of the PSU is doing or if the 12V EPS connector is connected or not. The motherboard might be trying to fire up the VRMs though, and if there's a short somewhere that gets turned on when that happens then that could explain what you're seeing.
It's hard to say for sure without more testing (you can always try grounding PS_ON from the backside with the board plugged in...

Re: Smd resistor alternativ
Wait, does the resistor say Rxxx on it, or does the board say Rxxx on it? If the labels are on the resistors then they indicate size like jiroy mentioned, but if they're on the board then they're just an internal reference number for the board designer and factory to use and don't tell us much without a boardview or schematic.
The best way to get a value is to remove the parts and measure them as small SMD resistors are often not labeled. Then a measurement of length and width (usu. in thousandths of an inch, easiest to measure...Last edited by JNP-3R; 02-14-2023, 12:15 AM.

Re: hp z440 memory fan issues
Interesting. I haven't seen these errors on my Z440 which lacks a memory fan, but I also only have 4 slots populated.
How do you have your memory installed? I know a lot of HPs have an annoying habit of throwing new fans in when you add upgrade parts, but it's possible a different set of parts might offer similar performance without triggering the error.
You may have some luck disassembling the BIOS ROM and looking for the check that determines whether your configuration requires the fan. There may be a way to pass a hardcoded...

Re: Information wanted for Venture Line 6 Pac I Pong game
Sorry it's been so long y'all. I've kinda had this on the back burner for a bit. I did get the recap done (and cleaned some liquid corrosion I'd missed earlier, d'oh!), but still no dice.
Did some digging and started to play with the board, and the bat generators are actually pretty different from the Atari ones. There's an LM339 being used to read the control pots that generates a PWM signal to represent their position. That's then used to gate pulses that feed into the rest of the circuit, and that's where...

Re: Information wanted for Venture Line 6 Pac I Pong game
Oh, and if anyone else needs some digital review (like I did) to understand the circuit, here's a great writeup: https://cdn.badcaps-static.com/pdfs/49cc798f88bba3d7524cbac004efb6c1.pdf
It looks like the timing on the bat generators is controlled by the 555 timers. They seem to be running monostable to create a variable delay to generate the bat data at the right scanline if I'm understanding right. The timing capacitors are ceramic, but I may replace the filter caps next to them start investigating...

Re: Information wanted for Venture Line 6 Pac I Pong game
Now that's some high quality information! Thanks!
Interestingly I had thought that the Venture Line upgrade was a whole set of new boards, but it looks like they just replaced a few components with sockets and piggybacked on to the original board, so that'll be a great resource.

Re: Information wanted for Venture Line 6 Pac I Pong game
Oh sweet! I figured it was its own thing since it has 6 pong variants (see the flyer: https://archive.org/details/arcadeflyer_6-pac-i_6-pac-ii), but with the generated display and construction looking so similar that should at least give me somewhere to start on the doubles mode. There's only so many ways to build a pong machine anyhow.
Thanks for digging!Re: Information wanted for Venture L... pong variants

Information wanted for Venture Line 6 Pac I Pong game
Hey everybody. I'm curious if any of y'all have experience working on older arcade or pong games. I was recently contacted to help fix up what I believe is a 6 Pac I retrofit board by Venture Line that's integrated into a third party cabinet (Tennistronics?). The unit is old school. All 7400 logic, 555s for timing, and so on. No microprocessors in sight.
The unit's in surprisingly good condition, but has an issue with the 3rd player paddle. It seems that the paddle will always extend from the bottom of the screen to where it ought to be, it's about normal width if you move it to...

Re: Robosapein V2 Bot PCB repair wanted
Without any obvious fault it gets hard to diagnose these. Unfortunately toys are usually short lived things and documentation is just kinda forgotten about and left behind when the companies move on. Your best bet is finding someone who's reverse engineered one, and even vintage ones with a community around them are hard to get info on unless they're really common.
Since we're focused on the main board, the first thing I'd check would be the microcontroller. Thankfully they've marked the pinout for us, so see it it's getting power...
