  • Re: Samsung PN60E530A3F 60" Plasma. Power Up Samsung Tones No Display

    Status update - purchased a rebuilt main Power Supply from a reputable seller; he claims "repaired with SAMSUNG recommended replacement parts, tested on a working set". Looked AOK visually; installed and tested, NO Joy.

    Perhaps my last attempt, found a good buy on "NEW/Other" X-SUS board for the other major suspect. On it's way from the west coast. Upon arrival, I'll take all the vital voltages again, and update this thread.

    From my basic understanding of...

    OK, well the new Y-sustain board arrived (still bagged). Proper installation brought no joy..... the same condition exists. When the power is switched on/off I do get the SAMSUNG tones; however I do not get any source sound coming thru the unit. I am suspicious that I have a power supply problem.

    I've tried power up (after unplugging for 5 minutes to allow caps to discharge), and with the Xmain unplugged, and also with Ymain unplugged..... no joy or glimmer of a picture NOR sound from a source...

    Well, checked both X and Y boards as Nick described above; could not find any shorted transistors. I've just purchased a new Y-Sustain board (no, they don't support "buy and try"), as elsewhere on this forum the most likely suspect for NO PIC / SOUND is said board. I'll post back my findings after I receive the board and test the SAMSUNG.

    I've checked all the 3 legged transisitors on the heat sinks. While they don't read the same resistance, they read typically ~1200 ohms one side, then ~350/250 ohms the other side. There are components with just 2 legs attached to these same heat sinks.... I did not take any readings on those. No 3 legged transistors reading shorted/less than 50 ohms.

    Tonight I'll check those same components on the X sustain board.

    Thank you for the "voice of experience" when board level troubleshooting these machines.

    The only board disconnect of the 2 (first the Y-sus, second the X-sus) that resulted in instantaneous voltages that were proper, was the top ribbon cable from X to Y-sus. However the voltages did not hold continously..... they degraded with time as I noted. With all boards attached, upon establishing 110VAC power to the main board, I did not have voltages near the spec. voltages.

    OK, with thanks to Nick's TV, the following data:

    With Y-SUS cable disconnected (ribbon cable at 12'oclock from X -> Y board)

    Vs=211 VDC ; falls ~ 3v/sec
    Va= 57 VDC ; falls also ~ 3v/sec
    Vs con = 43VDC for 1 sec. then collapse to 11 VDC
    Ve = 2.5VDC steady

    Now with top ribbon reconnected Y-> Y, and cable from PS -> X disconnected:

    Vs = 0
    Va = 0
    Vs con = 3 VDC steady
    no Ve test point on PS board...

    Thank you sir! My next thought was to check those voltages again, first with just the Y-sus disconnected, then the X-sus. If either restores voltages to the main power supply board, then we know where the issue is local to.

    I'll have to read up on checking the transistors; I know what they do, but don't have experience checking them. Am I looking for shorts to ground, or ?...

    Reporting my first "vital sign" voltages. All of these readings taken with the X and Y boards cable connected thru to the power supply:

    Vs = 147V which then decays quickly down to 15V in around 10 seconds

    Va = 56.5V which also then decays quickly dropping around 10V/second

    (both of these were taken at the identified TP's on the power supply board)

    Ve = 135V, then decays fairly quickly as the others did (taken at Y board connector)

    Hello Folks!

    Bumping this thread, as I have the same exact model SAMSUNG 60" (suffix XZA) with the exact same issue.

    I have read the PN51D550C1FXZA Fast Track Troubleshooting Manual which was linked early in this thread. My machine does not have the same component & PCB layout as these instructions, although similar.

    I have already used the upside down air spray (liquid) upon the group of suspect caps on the Y Main board..... twice, without joy.

  • Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

    Hello Folks!

    I found this forum whilst searching for advice on how to self repair my Samsung 60" flatscreen TV.

    With an Engineering background, I've comfortably dangerous around electronics and have a healthy respect for electrical power. I still remember seeing a classmate in an electronics module of Physics, discharge a capacitor on himself! I'm sure he still remembers..... and it left an impression with me, obviously.

    One of my favorite Uncles was a TV & Radio repair...
