XPS 2720 - Can anyone extract a ROM file from this executable?
Hi fellow BIOS modders
I have a Dell all-in-one 2720 computer. The error is a bit weird, whatever you do it just beeps four times with no display on start up.
Inside the machine, it's a Pegatron IPPLP motherboard and I believe it uses an AMI BIOS, rather than a specific Dell BIOS.
I removed the BIOS chip (Winbond 25Q64) and was able to read the chip from my programmer. However, I do not have the original BIOS ROM file to compare it against.
I have attached a zipped file containing the Dell update utility with the latest BIOS (A13)....

Re: Old Samsung Plasma TV Y.SUS
Just switched it on to check it and now the PSU is not producing VS.
Approx 2V on VS then the protection kicks in & power supply relay shuts off. It was not doing that before.
I think this TV has consumed too much of my time and I will scrap it at this point.

Re: Old Samsung Plasma TV Y.SUS
VSCAN voltage appears to be wrong
The voltages on long black connectors CN5601 CN5602 are wrong too.
Is there anybody out there with some general documentation how to set up and test Y.SUS output voltages?

Old Samsung Plasma TV Y.SUS
Hi,
I am troubleshooting the Y.SUS board part no. LJ41-05120A (Samsung 50-inch)
It had the common faults of blown MOSFETS which I have replaced.
I also replaced the ADUM1410 digital isolator. Basically everything it says to replace in the service kit.
I tested it with & without the buffer boards connected, but although inputs seem correct (VS=208V VCC=15V) the output voltages from the Y.SUS are not right.
Looking for ideas. Have included stock photo.
Thank you,...

Re: .Something Different - Power Inverter Repair
Picture added as attachment.
MOSFETS on left hand side replaced. Original part number was FTP18N06, [59A/60V / 18mΩ] replacement part number FDP65N06 [65 A/60 V/ 0.016 Ω]
What is the procedure for checking the functionality of these devices. I have a multimeter which I believe can operate in DC or AC mode.
So there is a driver IC which switches MOSFET pairs through part of the primary of the transformer, generating an AC waveform on the secondary side. That's about what I know....

.Something Different - Power Inverter Repair
Friends,
Got a 1000W power inverter (12VDC in ; 240VAC out)
I's a made in Taiwan model, Nikkai brand but I believe they may be rebranded in different countries.
When I got it, it was dead, I replaced a bank of input MOSFETS and a blown resistor.
Now, the inverter has got 3 status LEDs - Normal (green) ; Over Temp (orange) ; Overload (red) when connected all 3 LEDs are lit and no output.
Does anybody have an idea the likely culprit, I noticed a couple of long ICs on the board, or any tips what other components I should be checking? Basically...

Re: Question -- Vcore Voltage
Update: replaced isl6262, voltage now appears stable. Unfortunately, still no output to bios code, no video/screen output.
Continuing to work on it, if anyone has ideas feel free to let me know,

Question -- Vcore Voltage
Hi there,
I've got this motherboard, it's from a Fujitsu Li3710, Penryn CPU. It powers on for approx 5 secs then turns off. I don't appear to be getting any output to a pci BIOS diagnostic card, so I am assuming it might not be getting to the stage of BIOS boot.
Anyway, I put a voltmeter to the coil PL12 near the CPU, this is supposed to be the output for VCC CORE (CPU core voltage), it seems to be fluctuating wildly. The processor die gets warm, but then of course the board powers off quickly with no further progress.
(Core voltage is managed by an ISL6262)...

Re: Logic board repair help needed please please
Just for clarity.
S5 voltatges should be always present when charger is plugged in.
S3 and S0 voltages only present after power-on pressed (or power-on pads).
Also before diagnosis you ideally need to establish that your charger is good. It should be 85W genuine Apple power supply. You can try a different charger or try your charger in a different laptop to be sure.

Re: Logic board repair help needed please please
>>I checked the RAM, one by one in each slot
Try without RAM, if you can get it to turn on and it beeps, this will tell you that the problem may not be voltages, but one of the ICs.
The SMC is a BGA. It has a triangle on it which points to pad A1, there is a test point just outside the opposite corner which should indicate 3V (not 3.42V) supply voltage to SMC. I think it's pads N14 and N15, it is marked on the schematic.
Generally, if you have a green light on the charger it is a...

Re: Logic board repair help needed please please
When you say you reflowed the board what exactly did you do to it?
It sounds like there may be a problem with the SMC. This is a microprocessor which manages various power states, I believe it also deals with sensor outputs. It is a 3mm ball grid array I believe so the usual caveats with BGA apply. I believe it is U4900. You can check you have stable G3h which is 3.42V then you can also check the input to SMC which is 3V or 3.3V.

Help identifying fault (charger circuit?) Quanta AX2
Hi fellow tinkers,
Here is the problem as I see it,
I have a Compaq CQ56 which starts ok on battery but not from psu.
Checked the ISL6251 pin 24 DCIN voltage was not present.
Found 20V (psu voltage) on PQ2 (IMD2 dual transistor) pin 1.
Tried replacing PQ2 with a similar component from an old dv6000 motherboard. To be honest I am not sure the replacement component is ok either.
Point is I believe ISL6251 pin 24 DCIN should be approx 19v (adapter voltage) but I don't get that, it's approx 1v at the moment....

How to troubleshoot fault with SATA detection
Hi, just thought I would try this forum in case any one had some experience of this issue.
The machine is a Toshiba Satellite L500 (core i3).
Fault is ; no HDD detected in BIOS. Does not detect HDD on boot/ However, the internal optical drive is detected.
Just for clarity, the problem is not a faulty HDD, it appears to be something with the motherboard. As I see it, could be either (a) southbridge chip bga problem; (b) BIOS corrupt; (c) bad SATA connector or faulty smt cap / resistor between connector and southbridge (South Bridge: ICH9-M)
