Re: 42" Philips-Won't turn on
Appreciate that Ben, yea I did TV repair for close to 15 yrs, but about as many years ago. Then they didn't have flat screens then, but I'm pretty sure the block diagram/flow chart is pretty much the same. Also caps don't have to have rounded tops to be bad or leaky and screw things up. Jumping them with a good cap will sometimes show them but you have to be careful what circuit your doing that in as it can make things worse. Best things is just replace caps in RC timing circuits which is where I'm pretty sure this will be. Primarily...

So y'all think it's relatively the same problem?

Re: 42" Philips-Won't turn on
First I want to apologize for my lack of work on this please forgive. it's a physical thing. Aside from that it seems to me even though the sets are somewhat different the root problem appears to be the same with a slight twist and that is that Grizzly's may seem to have some sort of diagnostic mode where mine doesn't even though his is older.
Bill your info on the breakdown of the model # is great where do u get that? Plus what's the difference between "PF" and "PFL"? Grizzly's is a - 42PF7320 and mine is a -...

Re: 42" Philips-Won't turn on
Bill I know your probably very busy and miss things going thru as much as you do but I did mention make and model at the very beginning of this thread. Also I think I mentioned somewhere that I did a search of both the model No. and the prob without any results, if not my apologies I meant to. I honestly try to use these boards for what they are meant to accomplish and try to achieve my goal with as little fuss and muss as I can. I really do appreciate y'alls time and help, if I miss something or omit something it's not intentional....

Re: 42" Philips-Won't turn on
HMmm! I went to download this on my computer that still has XP on it and the service manual downloaded without all the other stuff I was seeing on my Vista 'puter, odd, huh? Anyway just thought I'd run that by ya. Again tnx.

Re: 42" Philips-Won't turn on
Ok will do. I went to look at that manual yesterday and it seems like they want to load all sorts of crud on my 'puter before I get it so I installed"Comodo time machine" so I can undo everything they want on here. Don't know if you've ever heard of that program or not but it beats PC restore hands down! Anyway thanks for the info and I'll post back when I either figure it out or need a lil more help. Hopefully it's the former rather than the later!
Tnx
JW

I can appreciate that. That's why I love the web, share the knowledge! I really appreciate the manual even though I haven't looked at it yet. I did a search on the forum about this and didn't come up with anything, however on the web I saw it referred to many times so it's obviously a common problem. Have you seen anything relating to it? It's been about 17 years since I did any TV repair work, needless to say I'm a lil rusty and could use any help offered!
Tnx,
John W....

42" Philips-Won't turn on
I've had this TV a little over 2 years and it's done this a couple of times before (shoulda started looking for a manual then!) but this time after unplugging it and plugging it back in (that reset it before) it refused to turn on this time. The red light is on. I'm pretty sure this PS is common on several sets so if anybody has an idea and/or schematic I would very much appreciate the heads up. BTW it's a Philips Model # 42PFL5432D
TIA,
John W.
