Thanks peste . It's a pesky BGA SIO, so I don't have the equipment to program it externally. I have a Successor programmer and a TL866II+ but there is no record of anyone programming a NPCX998HA0BX either through the keyboard connector, or via JTAG (and the absence of any schematic stops the possibility of programming via JTAG). I'll reflash the original bios chips and put a new, empty NPCX998HA0BX chip on and see if it manages to self-program... Will report back once the chip arrives from China...peste...

HP EliteBook 835 G9 corrupted SIO - how to reflash?
Serial: 5CG2271DC5
Hello folks, have an 835 G9 Laptop, which started with keyboard lighting up, but black screen, no further. Tried changing the 2 bios chips (both 32MB WSON) with multiple various dumps but no result (coudn't find any 835 G9 dumps, but 845 G9 and 865 G9 use the same bios according to HP) Board voltages all appear normal. Long-pressing the power button has no effect, so suspect corrupt contents of the SIO (NPCX998HA0BX), assuming the chip itself is good. So, how to reprogram? Would soldering on a blank replacement self-program (assuming original bios chip contents...

Thanks for your reply. I'll get those readings and post them back here.

Hi, I realise this is 4 years after this thread, but I have just come across a board with the same problem, no backlight. Did you manage to solve your issue and locate which component(s) had the fault?

I discovered the /SKIP_CHECK_POWER command-line switch by running strings (linux) on the manufacturer bios update .exe file and looking for any useful switches. Using this switch successfully bypassed the check (passed through an admin cmd terminal) on an old NP600B5B laptop which otherwise complained instantly at the >30% requirement message. May work on other older Samsung models too... I also found older Samsung models will only play nice for bios updates in a Windows 7 environment. No luck with 10 or later... These bios updates can be critical - in the case above, "SATA Gen 3 Mode...Last edited by pingaroon; 11-25-2023, 08:47 AM.

Re: Thinkpad Yoga LA-A341P BIOS
Many thanks - it works - I had to short pins 5 and 6 before the backlight came on, and then F1 let me in. On mine, it's a p24s08a...

Re: Excruciatingly slow bios Dell E5570 LA-C641P
Hi - I used the same (me cleaned) bios in the other 2 (identical spec) good boards where it is flawless. I even tried with 2 or 3 other bioses from the tinternet but all with the same result: SLOW. Also, it was working perfectly with that bios and the fault suddenly appeared
Bad EC, PCH? I have no idea......

Re: Excruciatingly slow bios Dell E5570 LA-C641P
Hi, 90W and 65W Dell chargers are both recognised normally in the bios (and both work normally on other boards), so it's not the charger.
I've swapped out plenty of bad charger id diodes (PD6 in this case) in the past where the charger cannot be detected, but this board runs even slower than boards where the charger is not detected! Throttling on steroids!
*headscratch*...

Excruciatingly slow bios Dell E5570 LA-C641P
Hi, a once-good board has suddenly developed a fault where it runs slow - I mean REALLY REALLY SLOW. With no peripherals attached (including no SSD/HDD), the bios screens can actually be seen redrawing/refreshing themselves and it takes 30 mins+ to boot an o/s off a USB stick. All the PS coil voltages are normal and everything on the board looks fine (and works fine). I have a couple of good working boards for comparison but can't find any difference between the 2.
The problem is definitely not the bios.
I've changed 2 of the crystals to no avail.

Question for Dell Latitude 7420 owners
Hi,
Would somebody be able to confirm if this model will power on normally with the battery disconnected. I have a buyer who tells me this is normal behaviour and the board is designed to only switch on with both charger and battery attached. Since I've not seen that in a Dell board (except with Chromebooks), I'm skeptical.
Thanks!

Re: I.O programmer SAS JIG 3.8V
The SAS Jig clone works well but is limited to read/write only 128kb. This is fine if the size of the chip is 128kb, but a disaster for 256kb chips. I found this out the hard way - it reads, writes and verifies the first 128kb perfectly, but leaves the final 128kb on the chip untouched. Dumping a 256kb chip therefore results in a 128kb file.
Since the software is cloned from the original vertyanov software, it could just be a case of waiting for the clone software to catch up. Original vertyanov software was also limited to 128kb chips...

Re: THINKPAD L390 password
Thanks @dycc. I wish had been more patient. I tried, as suggested, with a patched dump for a similar machine to mine posted earlier on this thread. It went through the usual procedure (asking for hardware id, press space twice etc, but with the difference that at one stage, a strange character appeared on the screen that had never happened with any other machine I have patched with autopatch. Other than that strange character, everything looked normal and it *appeared* to have worked. Sadly, the board no longer starts. I have restored the original bios...
