  • Re: LG 50PK590 Hdmi Arc Or Not?

NO ARC apparently according to LG tech support no port labelled with it on the tv either!

    Aw well!

  • LG 50PK590 Hdmi Arc Or Not?

Ok I thought this might be a simple issue and have read through the entire manual and many websites including LG so I shall presume that the LG 50PK590 Plasma tv does not have HDMI (Arc)?

Dont laugh but I still have this rather excellent plasma tv and recently read that connecting to our old Yamaha RXV365 (audio only hdmi) amp will give better sound than using the current Spdif connector.

So this forum is my last hope for a knowledgeable person who can advise me if the old plasma's did have Hdmi (Arc).

I have plugged in the amp to HDMI 1 which i would...

  • Re: Common LG TV Issue - Antenna Grayed Out

Thank you i did check all the ;ins only one with a voltage present but i think the tuner is snafu although i am going to try and test is more thorouglhy when i build the oscilloscope and meantime will remove the board and do some individual component tests on the resistors and other componenets - the inductor does have a voltage going through it it was the only thing with any voltage present but i needd to take the board out and have it on the workbench to properly test it!

Thank you gentlemen for your kind assitance.

I am beginning to wonder if i can remove the tuner module and test it off the main board.

I have a reflow oven and a hot air gun and soldering station and am pretty good with them!

I just bought one of those cheap build it yourself oscilloscopes from Banggood do you think it would be of any use? - i know they only go up to 30v i think so no use for mains testing but i am quite interested in learning how to use an oscilloscope as part of my learning curve so if the tuner is only 5v it might show me something?...

Copper core of coax soldered to central pin that is cut.
Braid soldered to outer can that is now cut!

Only one voltage 3.3v present on the array of pins!

Already tried numerous raw rf inputs from other devices vcr, youview, tivos etc and no joy.

Measured voltages to various points but no joy although the large what looks like a lime green inductor shows a 1.5v voltage!...

Its the back of the tuner area where you mentioned the pins - those are the pin designations printed on the back of the circuit board.

I soldered the coax directly to the centre pin and the copper shield to the earth casing.
    Still no reading.
Checked all the pins again still no reading on any of the pins.
    Checked before and after "work"!

No have not checked the voltages - I will do tomorrow and take another photo of the tuner section!
    TV is still working...Amazingly.....after...

  • Re: Common LG TV Issue - Antenna Grayed Out

Well i tested all pin points today and no connectivity so I have been very naughty I removed the board and cut the rf input can/sheath completely off and soldered an aerial lead directly onto the earth and centre core and well I am a bit disappointed still no joy.

So i guess its the tuner module faulty somewhere but it will be difficult to backtrace the centre pin as it is all contained under the board which is hard soldered and clipped into the main I/O board so I guess that is as far as I can go - It would be a nightmare...

Thanks Mr Bud i already had two "oops" Zsus boards go pop on me a diode transistor went up in smoke (twice lol) for forgetting a simple grounding screw - I did learn something though , always try and look at the positive through the tears!

I have multiple boards for this telly 5 ZSUS, 2 YSUS, 2 CPU, 2 PSU all except of course the IO board as its the most expensive Ā£80 the rest cost me less than Ā£50 for all of them - one of your Badcaps members even came out to my flat to help me fix the telly and brought me some...

Are you sure - the three pins (i marked them on the pic below is that what you mean?) are actually to attach the sheath to the ground i just measured all three and they all attach to ground - i also measured the centre pin to the first diode in the circuit and to virtually every other point on the circuit board and there is zero conductivity so will remove the board tomorrow and check the centre pin, i think it must have a cold solder joint or summat?

Sorry I just read RJ posts again the pins you mean the little dots!

  • Re: Common LG TV Issue - Antenna Grayed Out

Problem is there is no exposed pin its on the other side of the board and no way to touch it without taking the board out!

Thanks Mr RJ I have two youview boxes with built in RF Tuners a DN370T and a DN372T also tried with my Tivo-500 and my Tivo-6 and nothing!

The thing is I just switched on the other LG tv and the aerial icon is there even without any aerial being inserted into the rf input!

I do have my old Akai VS-F600 in my av rack so will maybe try that as well now you mention her she hasnt...

  • Re: Common LG TV Issue - Antenna Grayed Out

I see what you mean because the rf connector and pin basically secure it to the board so it will maybe be a diode or something?
Howver in Mrrecceyburgers video neither was his it is basically the exact same fault!

There must be some sort of damage as the other LG tv aerial icon still shows on screen even if you remove the tv aerial!

Ok so i need to take the board out - this is going to be scary Mr Bud and with my luck its tv disaster time
I think i will leave it till tomorrow Abandoned Engineering and The Walking Dead are on tonight and I cannot miss them haha

Many thanks for putting up with my beginners questions and yes i did already understand about testing full circuit connectivity I see what you mean anyway its really a board removal requirement - Oh dearĀ¬

New telly it is then when i mess this up tomorrow lol - what would you...

Thanks Mr Bud i will need to remove the board i think and i will follow my nose!
    >;o)

From what you are saying you mean that constant wiggling and pulling in and out of the aerial connection may have caused the centre pin connection to come loose from the solder which attaches it to the back of the circuit is that what you are saying?
I do agree as the aerial connection was always very tight and removing the cable was always a pain of wiggling and pulling to get it out so I think it is a PEBKAC cascading blonde...

Yes it is the input screen - Aerial icon greyed out and you cannot select it.
However you can go into the setup screen and do an auto tuning which ends up with a screen saying Not Programmed.
Checked the resistance its open - here are a few photos.
I already soldered the centre connector because I saw a really talented guy called MrReeceyburger123 on youtube fix his that way.

I have fixed the tv already perhaps i should add this - the power board failed requiring replacing the common resistor fault....

Will open the tv and test it and get back thanks Mr BudĀ¬
Or do you mean measure the resistance between centre core and outer can (earth) to check if its shorted?

  • Re: Common LG TV Issue - Antenna Grayed Out

Yes thats the first thing i did.
I have two tv aerials so swapped them over to obviate the aerial and coax - no fix.

This problem is all over google if you search for it but no one not even LG can give a solution but it started in happening to old LG tellies on 2017 so maybe it is a firmware issue as all the apps on the tv stopped working then as well.

  • Common LG TV Issue - Antenna Grayed Out

I have been trying to sort this one for ages - i finally removed the main board from the tv today 50LGPK590 and opened up the tuner and re-soldered the main coax connection input but still no joy.

I was talking with a computer engineer at work and he tells me that a lot of LG plasmas have this problem and it might be due to the firmware and as it wont be updated there is nothing you can do?

I find this quite interesting - how would the firmware which hasnt been updated suddenly stop the tv from detecting it has an aerial connected and gray out the Antenna option in...
