Re: TCL 65" U65E5800FS - Black shading after startup
Yeah I don't get it. TV has now been fine for 2 days.
Are LEDs known to be very temperamental? They seem like the type of component that is either working or isn't working.

Re: TCL 65" U65E5800FS - Black shading after startup
Thanks. Yeah I'm pretty sure all back lights are ok since the TV is working fine some of the time.
Just to clarify, when you say it could be "panel related", do you mean one of the main boards (Power, Main, LCD Driver, T-con etc) or do you mean something specially isolated to the panel?

Re: TCL 65" U65E5800FS - Black shading after startup
Ok. This is getting really weird.
We used the TV for a few hours this evening. At first, like I mentioned, the screen was back to normal, the problem had seemingly completely gone.
Then after a couple of hours I noticed that the darkened area had returned, but this time it was down the middle... the complete opposite of what happened in the first instance.

Re: TCL 65" U65E5800FS - Black shading after startup
Interestingly, the problem has gone away this afternoon!
At the same time as testing the backlight setting (which had no affect), I also went to the Home screen, which we don't normally do since we run everything from a Mac via HDMI. I also connected the TV to Wifi (which we also don't usually have connected, since it's not needed).
I don't see how either of these actions could have actually solved the issue and suspect it is just coincidental, but you never know?!
It seems more likely...Last edited by Stuckster; 09-29-2021, 01:59 AM.

Re: TCL 65" U65E5800FS - Black shading after startup
Ahh, got it. BTW I found the Backlight setting
No noticeable change in the time taken for the backlights to dim when the backlight is adjusted up or down (tested several times).
There is a very slight vignette in the corners in "normal" mode which I suspect may be common in mid range LCDs. But the camera has definitely emphasised the effect....

TCL 65" U65E5800FS - Black shading after startup
Hi all,
TCL Model U65E5800FS (AUS)
D65A620U (CN equivalent)
My 65" TCL just started doing something strange. I searched the forums but couldn't find any threads covering the exact issue (possibly not using the right keywords).
When I turn it on the title screen displays normally... a brilliant, consistent white with no artifacts and the TCL logo in the middle.
Within 2 sec to 2 min the left and right side of the screen go dark, creating a vignette with only the centre illuminated.
Same...

Re: Backlights but no picture - No 12v to Tcon board
Ended up returning the used board and received a refund through Paypal. Got the TV serviced and new mainboard installed. Repairs are warranted for 3 months. Thanks all for your help.
The moral of this story? Never buy used electronic components unless you can diagnose and repair them!

Re: Backlights but no picture - No 12v to Tcon board
Hi Budm. To clarify. The replacement board I first bought was a used board. Was trying to save some money. Unfortunately it didn't work. Now that we have determined fairly conclusively that is faulty (with your generous help) I would like to return the used board so I can buy a new board....

Re: Backlights but no picture - No 12v to Tcon board
Hey. No the replacement board I bought was from a private seller and was sold in "used working condition". Was trying to save some $$. Lesson learned I guess.
I can't see a thing on the screen. So I have tried hooking up an external audio source, but I can't tell if it's on the right input. Have tried cycling the source button to no avail.
My own TV....

Re: Backlights but no picture - No 12v to Tcon board
Hi. Yeah I have enquired with those guys. They want $355.00 plus $22.00 postage for a new board! Hard to justify on a 4 year old set.
I can get a new board off Ebay for around $270, which is still pricey. So I first need to arrange a refund on the faulty board to obtain the funds.
Might have to learn how to solder pcbs!...

Re: Backlights but no picture - No 12v to Tcon board
Hey. My intention from the outset was to diagnose the cause so I could confidently return and replace the faulty board.
Is the fix you have suggested a temporary measure for further testing or will it actually fix the problem and if so if I'm able to get it repaired it is it ok to leave it like that permanently?...

Re: Backlights but no picture - No 12v to Tcon board
Hmm. I really appreciate your help, but unfortunately I don't have a 100 Ohms resistor, nor the experience to solder components to the board. So this might be getting beyond my abilities.
Is there some other way to simulate 100 Ohms of resistance between GND and the Gate pin? Possibly using the meter?
Failing that, how certain are you at this stage that replacing the mainboard would essential fix the TV? And if I put a new mainboard in, from what we have already diagnosed, what is...

Re: Backlights but no picture - No 12v to Tcon board
Do you mean that the 0v reading on the base pin means that that component is faulty? Or that you think I measured the voltage incorrectly?...Last edited by Stuckster; 10-24-2019, 04:59 PM.
